On this bright day, a flock of pigeons was flying about, enjoying the beautiful morning and the fresh air. One of them looked down and spotted another pigeon lying stiffly on the ground. One by one, they descended to take a closer look, puzzled—was the bird dead, or perhaps poisoned? Before long, the pigeon woke up and asked, startled, "Hey, why are you all looking at me like that? I’m just sunbathing!"
The only drawing tools used are a single black-ink pen and a sheet of white paper.
As a first step, we create a few sketches of pigeons.
Once the sketch is complete, we begin adding color and shading using a black pen. Work slowly and without pressing down on the pen; this allows you to control the light and dark tones by moving the pen in a single, consistent direction.
Once all the birds have been colored and shaded using a black ink pen, we will now create a sketch of a bird lying on the ground with its feet facing upward.
Once the sketch is complete, proceed in the same way as with the other bird by applying black shading—draw your pen strokes in a single, consistent direction.
Finally, as a last step to bring the image to life, we add clouds above, indicating that the weather that day is very bright.
