Once upon the time of my grandmother

My grandmother told me that in her childhood they have everything different and now the luxury of modern houses are completely different from what they had in her time.
The houses were small private houses on land and usually a small household. There are sometimes only one main room and if people lucky enough they may have one of two separate bedrooms one for parents and one for kids.
Actually seeing this photo that reminded me what my grandmother described in her main room which was a kitchen, she was glad when they managed to dig deep to ground water and to have a deep-well pump. That was the best luxury in old time because in winter it is cold and could be rainy and snowy that is why it was good to stay at home but still have clean water for cooking.
There is also a space like a sink so that it is possible to clean the dishes and sometimes a quick wash of the clothes.
In the kitchen on my grandmother in the corner she had a wood burner but also it was made for cooking. Therefore, it was like a modern household, heating, fire for cooking and to be warm, often water was boiled for washing the clothes.
You can see that there are ceramic vessels for storing the vessels and also for washing for example some fruits and vegetables.
While seeing such houses, I always think that people always strived for better living, to have all possible comfortable stuff within their own houses and maybe that is very good because thank to those people we achieve now what we have and have all possible luxury, that is why I never can understand people who complain that they live poorly. We all live much better than many hundreds time ago.

Seeing this picture reminded me of a time about a month ago when our fridge had broken down and we were without electricity. It felt like living in the old days—before electricity or cold water—when people drank plain water and breathed in the fresh air with a sense of contentment; that is exactly what we experienced.
Yes, we remember times from history when people had everything outside and now when we have all luxury here on picture is time between. Not so bad but also a long way to modern comfortable lifestyle.
Humanity has progressed gradually, accumulating all manner of comforts. Now that humans have become accustomed to these luxuries, the loss of any one of them causes them great distress.
It is interesting to compare today's homes with the ones our grandparents lived in. I was particularly struck by the fact that having a well with a water pump was considered a real luxury. I remember very well the one I used as a child, too—the hand-operated water pump my grandparents had at their home.
Hand-operated pump for water is something that we as children loved to use. That was a reason why we always wanted to help our grandparents too.
I feel warmth in a kitchen like this, and especially so when grandparents used them before. Childhood memories linger and we are reminded of the good old days when they were all around, bringing us love in food.
You have said correctly that the image has some warmth and cosy atmosphere of grandparents home. I think it is good for little kids to have some adventure :)
Yup yup. I think kids are lucky to have their grandparents around, it is a different adventure and love that they experience.
Like you this kitchen brings back good memories, it also stands for family life and home made food. Simple but good.
