Hello friends, I hope you are all doing well; by the grace of Allah, I am doing very well too—Alhamdulillah. Today, I have a new topic to share with you, and I hope you find it interesting. In the photo I’ve taken, you can see a young ridge gourd (jhinga) with its flower still attached.
Typically, after the flower blooms, it gradually transforms into the vegetable itself—a process visible in the image, where the flower is yellow and the vegetable is green. Locally, we often call it Jhinga, though many know it simply as Jhinga. Since the vegetable is still young, small stripes are visible on its surface; these stripes become more pronounced as it grows larger. It tastes delicious once fully matured. These vegetables can be cooked in various ways, though they are particularly tasty when prepared with small fish. They are rich in Vitamin C and calories, making them highly beneficial for health. As the vegetable continues to grow, the flower will eventually drop off, allowing the gourd to develop fully.
