INKtober 2026 - Flex
Monstera deliciosa has holes in its leaves, is called a Swiss cheese plant and is also known here as a finger plant. This refers to the shape of the leaves, which bear a strong resemblance to fingers.
This plant is no monster, but it certainly makes its presence felt. The aerial roots are a good example of this. When I was thinking about the ‘Flex’ prompt, it occurred to me that this plant, too, goes to great lengths to attract attention, although it’s not exactly bragging.
And when I gave the Monstera a face, it briefly reminded me of the special plants in the greenhouse in that episode of Harry Potter that scream blue murder when they are repotted.
And with this drawing l Inktober came to an end. I drew daily, but still have one unfinished drawing (Tumbelina) ; my sketchbook is full, by the way. There are still a few blank pages at the back, but in between them are leaves from last autumn, now dried out.
Shall I carry on drawing? Perhaps I will. In any case, I’ve bought a small sketchbook to do smaller drawings and try out a few things; it’s also easier to carry around. I have some work to do, and there’s some unfinished painting work lying around.
November has now begun, and that used to be NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). The ‘freewriters’ here on Steemit took part in it for a number of years Today NaNoWriMo it no longer exists except for a new inactive around March/April waiting poetry with a prompt.
Instead of writing, we could, of course, draw this month based on a daily prompt, perhaps accompanied by a short story or a poem. It would be something else to have your own content accompanied by your own illustration, preferably no AI.

Materials used

Note: ballpoint doesn't smudge, unlike the fineliner if I use watercolour paint.

Well, lol, the plant’s very name hints at its superhero-like power.
I’m not sure exactly how low-maintenance or hardy it is—we mostly kept succulents, Crassula varieties, and the like at our place—but I’ve seen a massive planter, about the size of a wine barrel, at a neighbor’s house, containing a Monstera that reached nearly to the ceiling.
It’s a complex piece, but executed brilliantly—the Monstera looks absolutely lifelike!
