Inktober 2026 | #12 Toss & #13 Flimsy
I’m falling behind on the Inktober prompts again—not great, but not entirely bad either. I already had an idea in mind for the prompt "toss." It’s an interesting word from the perspective of learning English; a single verb can carry so many different connotations and uses—sometimes, two distinct verbs might seem to mean the same thing, yet there are subtle differences in both their meaning and how they’re used. That's how we improve our vocabulary. When I saw the next prompt—"flimsy"—I set aside my initial idea and looked for a way to combine both prompts. Illustrators usually need a solid grasp of human anatomy, or at least a model to work from. I made it clear from day one that I’m not an artist, so I once again took photos of my own hand. The first image shows my hand holding a glass, which served as a reference for the object itself, the lighting, and the perspective. The second image shows my hand mimicking the motion of throwing...or tossing something. Using these as a guide, I sketched my hand in the throwing position and added the glass, depicted as if it had just left my hand and was now in freefall. I went over the main outlines using a black pen (for the hand) and a blue pen (for the glass). Building on this foundation, I refined some of the lines—making them thicker (perhaps a bit too thick)—and added some shading. In drawing, it’s common to use specific lines and onomatopoeia to represent an object falling or breaking. That’s why, as a final touch, I incorporated these elements using a red pen—blending drawing with lettering. Do you enjoy drawing? Are You an artist?
I like how when you drew based on your hand and props modelling, they look really close like it. I tried this method but mine hasn’t turned out the way I hope haha. And actually the shadow can mimic the glass falling out of your hand. A good drawing 💗
