INKtober 2026 - Trophy

There are various kinds of trophies, and I don’t feel like drawing a cup or a medal. The most obvious trophy is, of course, a hunting trophy. I realised this fits in perfectly with the other prompts. And here it is: the (grizzly) bear. You’ll probably recognise it from some comic or cartoon where it’s used as a rug. Here we see the bear lying on a rug, whilst the weather outside isn’t all that great.

Apparently, bear meat isn’t the tastiest kind of meat, and you have to cook it for a very long time to kill any parasites – something I reckon applies to quite a few types of meat. If you’re planning to eat bear meat, the meat from a bear that eats fruit is reportedly tastier than that from a bear that catches salmon or fish.

It’s quite tiring to draw for a few hours a day and produce a different drawing every day, at least if you don’t have loads of time. I’m a day behind now, I think, but all in all I’m still more or less on schedule, and yes, this drawing also took about four hours; this time I used a dip pen and Chinese ink.
Actually, I used two pens: one to draw those broad lines, and I don’t find that one very easy to work with, because I literally have to dip it in the ink four times for a single line, and even then it isn’t a clean line – unlike the ordinary dip pen (the one we used to use at school)..
I also have no idea whether you’re actually supposed to write with these things, or whether they’ll start to feel natural in your hand like a fountain pen or a ballpoint pen. In any case, this is the second time I’ve used these pens and created a drawing with ink. Best of all, it hasn’t smudged once.

The Process

Drawing the sketch actually went quite quickly in pencil, or at least that’s how it felt, and then I went over it in more detail with the dip pen. In certain places, I did need to go over it several times, simply because the ink tends to fade a bit.
The nice thing about taking photos is that it makes you look at your drawing from a different perspective, which is also an advantage, because it’s lying flat on the table, under rather poor lamplight, but you can’t have everything, can you?

Issues

  • it takes too much time

Materials:

  • sketchbook - bamboo paper
  • pencil HB
  • Dip pen
  • Chinese ink

Thank you dear @uzma4882 for supporting art.o wish you a great weekend.
Blessed be.

Thanks for sharing the skin of a slain bear with us! As the saying goes, you shouldn't divide the skin of a bear that hasn't been killed yet—but here, it’s clear that it can be divided: some get the head, others the paws, and for the challenge... the tusks! :)
A fun idea, and the drawing itself is executed with great skill.

Who says that bear is dead? Perhaps it pretends and tries to stay inside close to the fire to have a comfortable winter.

Yes, of course—you should always leave a little room for dessert and for optimistic forecasts :)

You are quite on track there Kitty. I am half a month behind sigh.
Ah yes, bear fur rug as a trophy. When I watch the movies where hunters' houses are decorated with the heads of hunted animals, it is so eeewwww. How do they sleep everyday with all the heads staring at them?

If it comes to heads staring at you...I wondered the same as I visited the Museum and see the bed of rich people surrounded by paintings of old men....imagine how that sleeps ..

I doubt those hunters share their bedroom with the heads. Most likely it is in a certain room where they they invite their friends to brag about it.

I did not finish one drawing and yesterday's drawing I did not even start with, but I have the cookie in mind.

We have plenty of time to keep on drawing. A great weekend!

Gosh.. that does sound creepy, like they watch your every move. I have read how Mona Lisa's eyes seem to follow wherever you go. But think that may have been a myth. Though I have watched movies and dramas where people would install cameras at the eyes of portraits. That is creepy enough.

Yes yes, lets keep drawing.. I need to continue mine haha. But I managed to finish the Inktober2026 freewrite.
