Murky

Once cute
Feisty
Mischievous
A mouse hunter
So bright
Clever
A perfect face
Today, a failure...
‘I want something lovely to look at,’ said the boss
She no longer matches the décor
We went for green
Not washed-out blue.
Meow?
Be honest, this is no sight to behold
Let’s give her a shot
She’s old
That’s the humane thing to do.
She said nothing and left the room
I heard her rummaging about
Smelled the carrier
The scent of the vet flashed through my memory.
‘Come on,’ her soft voice said,
‘Hop in, my beloved pussycat
Today is the day
Let’s end this drama.’
As she finally let me out
– Weak –
She was wearing black
‘The boss is gone,’ she smiled
Meow?
He didn’t fit in with the furniture
I put him out of his misery
It was the most humane thing to do.
Cheese?

Cataracts are a condition that develops gradually in both humans and animals. When animals have a grey veil over their eyes (starting with the pupils), we can see that their vision is significantly impaired, leaving the animal virtually blind. Think of it as looking through a thick veil of mist. Perhaps the advantage for animals is that they make greater use of their other senses, such as hearing and smell, certainly more so than the average human. I have therefore based ‘Hurky’ on this eye condition, which typically occurs in older age, but can also affect younger people, and in this case, it is hereditary.
There are also Steemians on Steemit who suffer from this condition and are active participants. You wouldn’t even be able to tell from their content that they have poor eyesight.
I struggled again and had some dirty spots on my paper to cover. I also didn't intend to use aquarel paper. I bought it accidentally, so now I have to use it. If not it is a waste of money.
Materials - mixed media
- aquarel paper - A5 - 300 gr
- Black fineliner - Joie de Vivre
- watercolour paint - waterbrush

that twist at the end really caught me off guard. using cataracts as the inspiration for the whole poem is a fascinating concept.
