Street Food at Home - My Homemade Nigerian Shawarma

Hello, wonderful Steemians this post is written by @timiboy And Welcome to another diary today I show u how I made Sharmawa and this week I decided to prepare one of my favourite street foods, Shawarma.

If you are living in Nigeria, there is a good chance you have come across shawarma. It has become one of those popular street foods that people enjoy, especially in the evening or when hanging out with friends. Instead of buying one from a food vendor this time, I decided to bring the shawarma experience into my own kitchen and prepare it myself.

Getting My Ingredients Ready

The first thing I did was gather all the ingredients I needed for my homemade shawarma. I got my shawarma wraps, chicken, sausage, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, pepper, seasoning, and cooking oil ready. I made sure everything was available before starting because I didn't want to get halfway through the preparation and discover that something was missing.

Preparing the Chicken

I started by seasoning the chicken properly with my spices and seasoning. I wanted the chicken to have enough flavour because it is one of the main ingredients in the shawarma. After seasoning it properly, I cooked it until it was well done and had a nice flavour. I then cut it into smaller pieces that would be easy to put inside the shawarma.

Preparing the Vegetables

Next, I prepared my vegetables. I washed and sliced the cabbage, carrots, cucumber, and onions into thin pieces. The colourful vegetables already made the kitchen look lively, and I knew the final shawarma was going to be delicious.

Preparing the Sausage

No Nigerian shawarma experience would feel complete for me without sausage. I prepared the sausage and cut it into smaller pieces so that it could fit nicely inside the wrap. At this point, most of the ingredients were ready, and I was getting closer to the most exciting part of the preparation.

Putting Everything Together

Now came my favourite part — assembling the shawarma. I placed the shawarma wrap on a clean surface and added the vegetables. I then added the chicken and sausage before topping everything with mayonnaise, ketchup, and a little pepper. I carefully folded the wrap so that the ingredients would stay inside and not fall out everywhere. This part required a little patience, but I enjoyed doing it.

Grilling My Shawarma

After wrapping it properly, I placed it on the pan to grill it lightly. The smell coming from the kitchen at this point was enough to make me hungry again. I allowed both sides to become slightly toasted before taking it off the heat. The golden-brown appearance made it look even more appetising.

The Final Result

Finally, my homemade shawarma was ready. Looking at the final result, I was honestly happy with myself. It looked almost like something I would normally buy from a shawarma spot outside. When I took the first bite, the combination of the chicken, sausage, crunchy vegetables, sauce, and toasted wrap came together perfectly. It was really satisfying, and I enjoyed every bite.

Preparing this shawarma was fun from beginning to end. I enjoyed cutting the vegetables, preparing the chicken, arranging the ingredients, wrapping everything together, and finally tasting my creation. More importantly, this challenge reminded me that cooking is not only about eating. It is also about creativity, learning, patience, and creating beautiful memories through food.

And that's a wrap! Literally. I hope you enjoyed following me through this little kitchen adventure. Thank you so much for visiting my post and being part of my Week.
