Listening to a podcast about true crimes I discover that the Camino de Santiago can also be the scene of a crime.
Or perhaps the crime is walking alone as a woman?
To think that one of my dreams is to walk the Camino de Santiago, even to do the longest one. But now I'm wondering if I would do it alone

Esa foto del cruce de piedra me dio la vibra de la ruta más larga; ¿qué albergues recomiendas para una mochilera con presupuesto justo que viaja sola? Un consejo de seguridad para la aventura siempre viene bien 🧭.
I just read a writeup of an old news. The girl was jogging with her sister with a few paces between them and that was when the elder sister was snatched and murdered. The rapist was then released on bailed and escaped to another country. He even applied for the permanent resident there. Thank goodness they managed to nabbed him when he returned after about 6 years.
It is sad that there are such evil people who harm others just to satisfy their impulses.

I used to roam the streets in my childhood years. Though I encountered quite a few perverts but thank goodness nothing worse than that happen. I must be so lucky.
I believe that years ago, such serious cases were less frequent, at least when committed by strangers.
I remember that as a child, I could always go to the neighborhood store alone. If I were a mother, I would never send a child alone, not even to the corner store.

Me too. I wouldn't let my child get off my sight, if I'm a mother. It's a crazy world out there where they can snatch the kid in a shopping mall with their mother. There was this case where the kidnaper brought along change of clothes for their target and they also shaved off the child's head to make them unrecognizable.
I agree, the world is a dangerous place, even though it should be a paradise. Sometimes I think countries like China, with strict police controls and constant cameras, are the best option for a world like this.

Yes, I agree that China has a good system in place for that though there are many in different parts of the world felt it's intrusive. Of course we need our freedom and privacy but there's just too many bad eggs around us taking advantage of that, hurting others and committing crimes.

Sure, but if we think about it, it's like wanting to give all its rights to the tiger while doing the same to the gazelle. If sanctions alone deter some people from doing bad things, that right to privacy can be misused.

It is really sad and sickening to read and hear about stories like this. Correction, not stories but actual crimes of such nature. Single woman traveling alone, backpacking. Sometimes, women traveling in pairs can also be targets. The crime is definitely not the woman traveling alone. It is all the sickos and wackos in the world with evil thoughts which turned into evil actions that are the crime.
Yes, it's incredible the extremes people will go to. It's sad that we have to live knowing that such horrible things happen all the time.
Today I was watching an interview with a diagnosed psychopath, and according to him, not all of them are criminals. And the worst part is knowing that many criminals aren't psychopaths, they're just... bad people.
If they do not cause harm, then I agree that they are not a criminal. But the scary part is if they have the evil thoughts and we do not know when it will trigger a criminal action. We shouldn't discriminate and we shouldn't judge, but...... Stay safe there @ladyaryastark ❣️

When it comes down to it, a woman isn’t safe anywhere. What’s more, most women are murdered in their own homes – and by someone they know, no less! That says it all. I’m now wondering whether this route is the walking trail I once saw in a documentary, but I don’t think so.
I used to play in the street too, and so did my children, for that matter. Paedophiles have always existed, just like ‘child lures’, as we used to call them. I can still remember being at primary school and being told that we weren’t allowed to walk through the park. Incidentally, we were also told when the perpetrator had been caught. But let’s be honest, are you, are humans, ever really safe anywhere? The feeling of safety has to come from within, and of course you can also learn self-defence techniques – it makes a huge difference to your attitude.

Unfortunately, women were not well equipped by nature to survive. But then there's the ability to react. I always wonder why women don't gouge out the eyes of rapists or attackers. But I don't know what I would do in that situation.
The issue of pedophiles is worthy of a conspiracy theory, seeing how they were protected, for example, within the Catholic Church.
And going back to the topic of being prepared, I believe that every woman should learn some kind of martial art.
I practiced Jiu-Jitsu for a while until my teacher started behaving inappropriately. And I'm not even pretty, which just goes to show that nobody's safe forever.
