Most of us will never get a ‘booming’ vote (or is it a blooming vote?). It was once thought that if the communities no longer had this vote, it would be distributed more fairly. Of course, that didn’t happen, because ‘booming’ votes remain in the hands of the same voting for their own interests/theme/those they know, and as we all know, the number of votes that can be cast is always limited. If you vote too much, your SP drops very quickly and the vote is no longer worth anything! The only advantage of this is that when you cast lots of small votes across different accounts, your personal CSI shoots up.
Anyone with more than 500 SP can cast a percentage of upvotes – so yes, even just 1 per cent.
It should be clear that with an extremely high SP, people are cheating and rarely read, let alone respond.

And whilst I’m on the subject of replying: this isn’t always easy. I often read something two or three times before writing a reply. A reply that takes a great deal of time to write. And yes, I’m still using a mobile phone. Not a fancy one, but the sort that can’t read QR codes.

I don't know how visible I am here or how many votes—or whatever else my friend @wakeupkitty talks about—I might be getting; I have simply done my best within my capabilities. If I receive any recognition, I view it as a blessing—a sign that people see me and notice my presence here.
Everyone wants to be seen and noticed, though that can seem impossible if we aren't famous. However, I still remember what a teacher of mine once said: there are two ways to get noticed.
The first:

be a good, smart kid

The second:

cause trouble and annoy everyone

Otherwise, if we are just ordinary, we are often likened to a shadow—sometimes visible, sometimes not, depending on the situation.☺️.

When I see others sharing about there struggles after joining steemit, my story is absolutely different to them. Yes, kitty I agree with you and trust me I never rush myself to earn or gain more from steemit, everything just come to me it's way and you are right that how a social media works. It's true that I comment less, read less here and my focus is always holding consistency. At the very beginning I got enough love and support from sc01 and sc02 whenever I took part in steemit contests so I never felt like ignored or something like that and maybe that's why I'm still here holding consistency. Daily a single blog share is my aim to feel my existence in this platform and I do this for my self satisfaction and I don't rush. Earning big feels definitely good but I don't complain when I earn less. For example, when I power down two years ago in 2024, it took me more than a year to reach 5k or a single dolphin club, that time felt like I'm ignored but I prioritize holding consistency not the faster growth after a 20k sp power down.

I remember I hadn’t been on the platform for very long when I commented in a journal for a challenge about how posts on the trending page are visible, whilst for me (and others who didn’t have a high reward) it was impossible to be visible there.

These days, I’m not sure whether I’m visible or not; I’d say there have been periods when I’ve received more or less support, depending on various circumstances.

Since you ask, I don’t feel very creative at all these days. Sometimes I have ideas that I keep putting off, and in the end I never even give them shape beyond my own mind; I never develop them, or I lose momentum along the way and never get round to publishing them.

If there’s one thing I think made me visible in those early days I mentioned at the start, it was that I genuinely enjoyed reading and commenting on the posts of the users I got to know. These days, I sometimes find this a bit harder, for various reasons.

Yes I do receive votes, but it isn't consistent as other most especially with comments, Even when you get to post in a new community as a new comer..but still at that I am not distracted, just doing my thing, which is writing as always.

I have been on Steemit for a while. Initially, I was disappointed and dismayed that my posts didn’t receive the same attention as some posts, which in my opinion are not as good as mine. After a while, I accepted that that’s how it is here on Steemit. Sometimes, it is not what you put out, but who you know. Since I do not know any whales, I don’t get the big votes. I could invest in Steemit and give myself big votes like some. But nah… In the end, I just plod on without concerning myself with who to please, or how to get big votes. Any returns I get from my posts are bonuses. Of course, it makes me happy and I am extremely pleased when curators consider my posts worthy of a vote.

I would have left a long time ago, if not for the fact (I mentioned this before), that I had time and posting gives me a chance to improve my writing and English. Language, as we know, if you don’t use it, you will lose it.

After spending more than eight years here, my reputation score is just above 60. That means I couldn't get enough upvotes that might raise my reputation score. I am still posting and getting some rewards but despite my efforts I less than 600 SP. So, I can't say that my posts are visible on steemit. But I don't care about it as far as I am satisfied with my writings.

I am that shadow

Behind the platform that tries to become a mirror and reflect everything I have to say.

Yes, it’s sometimes difficult to think, write, edit and imagine our readers appreciating the work we do.

When I publish something, I log in several times a day, become addicted to the platform and search for every single one of the few comments as if my future depended on them. Within a few days, the post is lost in a dark abyss where no one will ever read it again.

That’s how I feel sometimes. That’s why, lately, I’ve been trying to approach it differently, without getting emotionally attached to the response my efforts might receive.

Now I post because I enjoy it and because I’m committed to a community of people who are trying to keep fighting, just like me.

What do I hope for? Perhaps that something will miraculously change and we’ll have a space where we can come together and enjoy quality content.

Yes, I do get upvotes, but they’re almost negligible when compared to other users who make hardly any effort with their posts. Is there some secret formula?
I’ve never received any downvotes.

I don’t think they’re ignoring me; it’s just that the system operates according to its own parameters.

I remember how invisible and frustrated I felt in my early days. I got off on the wrong foot, because for privacy reasons I didn't want to publish the tasks given to beginners.

Perhaps due to past abuses, they thought it was a good idea to force new users to post a photo of their face while holding a handwritten note with their username and the date. I found it bizarre.

And also, I posted my introductory post on my blog, another mistake. I think the first person who noticed me was @wakeupkitty, who commented on a post in the new community.

Because of the emptiness, I left the platform for many months. Then I returned and had better luck, as I found a community where I could publish creative writing.

I honestly started because I wanted to earn something for the future, but as you say, this shouldn't be considered a job. Now I see it as a way to exercise my mind through writing.

Fortunately, I also found some people with whom I could have frank exchanges of opinions, which is hard to find on social media, making it worthwhile to be here.

Regarding visibility, I can't complain, but to be honest, I know that the number of votes isn't usually correlated with quality or even effort. But that's society.

Now, I confess that I don't dedicate time to discovering new users, and I think I should change that, considering that I was also - am - new, and that we need to think about how important that first vote is.

I’m fascinated by the image of the sculpture and its shadow: a swan on the wall and a white human figure in the living room. This photo is very relevant to the topic you’re discussing, as sometimes what people ‘see’ isn’t ‘reality’, but a shadow of it. So behind a user there might be a bot, powered by AI. The thing is, these bots sometimes receive lots of upvotes from curators who don’t bother to check whether the post is genuine or not.

My early days on the platform were tough. I spent hours and hours researching to write an essay, yet in return I didn’t receive a single comment to motivate me to do better each day. After nearly a month of posting without gaining any visibility, I received an upvote from @sanchopanza. I remember it as one of my happiest moments. After that experience, I started posting with greater enthusiasm and dedication.

What you say about treating Steemit like a job is true. It shouldn’t be done, because the platform demands time and dedication, and if this isn’t offset by financial rewards, people get disappointed and give up.

I, like you, believe that the greatest rewards of this social network are the friendships formed with people from all over the world. But if, on top of that, we manage to earn a bit of money, that’s wonderful.

You covered a lot of grey areas, which is enlightening.
I would not say the newcomers need this more because we have some folks who have been around for a while and they barely know how to navigate the community.
This was the same for me when I started, and even after few years of being dedicated to the community.
But as they say, being consistent is the key.
Over the years, I have been able to create awareness and changed my way of communicating many times so that I can reach out to people properly.
There is still more to be done, more connections to be made, more communities to explore and more comments too.

This will give opportunity for steemians to share their experiences and those with a concern or more can open up.

Yes, I am voted.
And I expect more votes too, but I try to focus on giving a good output. It gives me joy when I see people enjoy and benefit from my post. That's the essence for me, even when the upvote is not as encouraging as I expect.

There’s more, much more, and I recognise myself in every comment because I’ve been through this too.
I think that, generally speaking, everyone is satisfied, although people agree that writing comments isn’t always easy, isn’t always appreciated, and is incredibly time-consuming.

The question remains whether there is a middle ground here, and whether people who never write comments are the right ones to teach others how to do so.
