How to Travel From Eindhoven Airport on September 9 When Public Transport Is Down
Landing at Eindhoven Airport on September 9, 2026? Normally, getting from the airport to Eindhoven, Utrecht, Amsterdam or elsewhere in the Netherlands is fairly straightforward. On September 9, however, you need a different plan.
A nationwide public transport strike is expected to cause enormous disruption. As explained in our guide to the September 9 transport strike in the Netherlands, regular train services will largely disappear, while local public transport will also be severely affected.
And there is another important detail: Eindhoven Airport doesn't have a railway station. Normally, passengers take a bus to Eindhoven Centraal and continue by train. On September 9, forget about that strategy.
1. Rent a car
Probably the most flexible solution is renting a car directly at Eindhoven Airport. This is particularly attractive if you are travelling with several people or heading somewhere outside Eindhoven.
But book it beforehand! Rental cars could become much more popular than usual once thousands of arriving passengers discover that their normal transportation options have disappeared.
2. Check FlixBus
FlixBus may be one of the best alternatives for reaching cities elsewhere in the Netherlands. Check available routes and departure points carefully, and reserve your seat in advance.
Don't assume that because public transport is striking, every private coach service will automatically have plenty of capacity. Quite the opposite.
3. Pre-book a taxi or private transfer
A taxi or private transfer is the expensive-but-simple solution. For a family or small group travelling together, the price per person becomes somewhat more reasonable.
Again, pre-booking is key. Demand could be unusually high, particularly around arriving flights.
Don't land without a Plan B
The biggest mistake is arriving at Eindhoven Airport and thinking:
"We'll figure something out when we get there."
You might. But September 9 is not the day to test that philosophy.
Reserve your rental car, coach ticket or taxi before travelling. With buses and trains largely out of the equation, thousands of other passengers may be searching for exactly the same alternatives.
