Chelsea Finally Agree to Let Shakhtar Donetsk Use Stamford Bridge for Champions League Games

After weeks of negotiations, Chelsea have finally agreed to allow Shakhtar Donetsk to use Stamford Bridge for their UEFA Champions League home matches during the 2026–27 season.

Shakhtar Donetsk cannot host UEFA competitions at their home stadium because of the ongoing situation in Ukraine. As a result, the Ukrainian club has been searching for a suitable stadium in London where they can play their European home fixtures.

The club reportedly considered Fulham’s stadium and another venue before turning their attention to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s stadium was an attractive option because of its size, facilities, and the good relationship between the two clubs.

Shakhtar eventually approached Chelsea with a request to use Stamford Bridge for their Champions League matches. The idea also makes sense for Chelsea, as the stadium would otherwise be relatively quiet on some of the Tuesdays and Wednesdays when Champions League football is being played.

After some serious negotiations—and, as we Nigerians would jokingly say, plenty of “begging”—Chelsea have now given Shakhtar Donetsk permission to use Stamford Bridge for their Champions League home games this season.

Chelsea, thank you! 😂

At least Stamford Bridge will still be hosting Champions League football even though Chelsea themselves will not be competing in the Champions League this season.

And who knows? If everything goes well, I might even bring another club to use the stadium next season! 😂

What do you think about this arrangement? Would you like to see Shakhtar Donetsk playing their Champions League home matches at Stamford Bridge?
