The first is Proof-of-Proof (PoP) Consensus and Superfinality. Instead of depending exclusively on conventional Layer-2 validators, Hemi uses PoP miners that periodically embed cryptographic proofs of Hemi’s network state into Bitcoin blocks. This enables Hemi to inherit the settlement security and immutability of Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work network, providing “superfinality” that makes its transaction history highly resistant to chain reorganizations.

The second is the Hemi Virtual Machine (hVM). This execution layer is an EVM-compatible engine that incorporates a complete Bitcoin node daemon known as the Tiny Bitcoin Daemon. As a result, smart contracts can natively access Bitcoin transactions, balances, and UTXOs without relying on centralized third-party price oracles or external relayers, thereby reducing associated trust and latency risks.

The third component is Trustless Tunnels. Rather than using conventional cross-chain bridges, which can present significant exploit risks, Hemi provides protocol-level “Tunnels” for non-custodial asset transfers and cross-chain communication among Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Hemi. These transfers and messages retain direct state verification on-chain.

The native token is HEMI, with a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion HEMI. Its primary financial functions include paying network gas fees, providing staking and validator collateral, participating in protocol governance, and rewarding PoP miners.

Hemi’s broader financial objective is centered on BTCFi, with the goal of enabling non-custodial yield generation, decentralized lending, and institutional-grade structured financial products that are backed directly by native Bitcoin liquidity.

By combining Ethereum’s flexible smart-contract execution with the security foundation of Bitcoin, whose network represents more than $1 trillion in value, Hemi offers a framework aimed at enabling institutional capital deployment throughout decentralized finance (DeFi).
