A Child With Strabismus Can Still Have Proper Eye Alignment — Here’s How

Have you seen adults and children with this type of eye?

One eye is looking straight, while the other eye appears to be turning inward, outward, upward, or sometimes downward.

Many people simply call it “4 o’clock eyes ” But medically, this condition is called strabismus, and I want every parent to understand something very important

A child having strabismus does not mean the child has to live with it forever. It can be treated.

Strabismus is a condition where the two eyes are not properly aligned and do not look at the same point at the same time…one eye may turn away from the object the child is trying to look at.

So what causes it?

There are different causes. It can occur because of problems with the muscles that control eye movement, problems with the nerves controlling those muscles, certain eye conditions, or sometimes problems affecting the brain or nervous system.

And sometimes, despite proper examination, no specific cause is found 🤷‍♂️

If untreated in most cases the child may develop amblyopia which is a lazy eye and the brain stops receiving visual information from that eye

This is why early examination is very important.

Treatment for this condition may involve prescription glasses, treatment of amblyopia with methods such as patching, exercises in selected cases, or surgery to correct the alignment of the eye muscles.
