My Greatest Life Lesson

The experience that taught me the greatest life lesson is the experience of following the wrong people whom I previously called them my friends. Around 2019, I got admission into one of the best universities in Nigeria, but instead of being serious and focusing on my studies, I went and started making friends with people whom my school had expelled.

My elder brother talked to me about them, but I didn't listen, thinking they were nice people that want my progress, not knowing that they were just trying to make me become like them. I never saw them reading their books; it was from one party to another, travelling, which I got influence by their way of life and made me decide to make a change after seeing how poor my result was.

How did that experience change your mindset, decisions, or way of living?

This experience changed my mindset in a negative way at first, until I made a change in my life. I thought people who are living a decent lifestyle, trying to be themselves, were too greedy or didn't want to enjoy life which such a thought was running through my mind.

Things began getting clear for me as I saw my result, which wasn't good for me, and the moment I noticed they had been accused by the institution then I completely cut away from them; otherwise, I would have also been expelled.

What advice would you give to others based on the lesson you learned?

My advice is that if you're making friends, make friends with those who are passionate and those who really want the best for you. Avoid making friends with people who want to spoil your life as if they own it. Be yourself and know what is good for you.
