"It's Throwback Time! – Childhood Memories Contest"
Hello, friends, welcome to my post in which I have discussed "Childhood Challenge" as part of my participation in this contest organized by @sadaf02
What was your favorite game as a child?
Hide and Seek, which is also known as the Boju Boju Game in Nigeria, is my favorite game. In this game, one child is the seeker, and this child is known as the Oloro.
Others will begin to sing and hide, and the Oloro will cover or close his or her eyes and begin to sing a traditional call-and-response song "boju-boju, oloro nbp, shey Kim hi? which means everyone should close their eyes, a masquerade is coming, should I open my eyes?". As the Oloro is singing the songs, others will run and hide themselves.
At the end of the song, the Oloro would then open his or her eyes and start finding others. This is how the game is being played, and it is how I played the game when I was a child.
Do you still play that game? Or is it just a memory now?
No, ooh, I do not play the game anymore, and I can't even remember when I last played the game. For now, it is just a memory, and it's part of what makes my childhood fun and interesting.
Each time I came across children in my neighborhood playing the game, it reminded me of my childhood days and friends. The game reminds me of a lot of things in my childhood, and looking at how things are nowadays, I would say children nowadays are really missing out.
Share with us a cute or interesting childhood memory. The one related to your favorite game.
The memory I'm about to share is kind of funny, but it's interesting. As a child, when our friend fell, we would laugh at him or her because we saw it as something funny.
Once upon a time, as we all gathered to play the hide-and-seek (Boju-boju) game, the Oloro closed his eyes, and all the other players went and hid. In the process of running one of the player which is my childhood friend fell down on the ground and started crying which got is laughing.
As we were laughing at him, an elderly man came and chased us away for laughing at him. The elderly man carried my childhood friend up and then took him to a nearby shop and bought biscuits and sweets for him.
As he came back to continue the game with us we all saw him eating biscuits and then we began begging him which he refuses, then we chased him away and the next thing he went and report us to his elder brother whom came and chased everyone away.

Hello @josepha 🌿
Your post reminded me that childhood games are never just games. They are the first lessons we receive in life, taught through laughter instead of lectures. I was inspired by how you describe a simple song and a closed pair of eyes as something that can stay in the heart for years, because it shows that the smallest joys often leave the deepest marks.
What I liked most is the idea of a seeker who has to wait in the dark while everyone else finds their place to hide. To me it is a quiet picture of life itself: sometimes we are the ones searching, sometimes the ones hiding, and the fun is in the shared journey, not in who wins.
I also appreciated your honesty about the games you no longer play. It made me think that we don’t leave childhood behind, we carry it in memory and are reminded of it whenever we see other children playing. And your thought that today’s children may be missing out is something I truly agree with. I would love to bring back traditional games like this, play them with the children around me, and let them experience the joy that doesn’t need a screen.
Thank you for sharing such a warm piece of your childhood. Wishing you success in the contest! ✨
