International Pressure to End the Isolation of Palestinian Prisoners: 14 Missions Demand Immediate Red Cross Access

In a joint statement, 14 diplomatic missions to Palestine called on Israel to urgently allow the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to visit Palestinian prisoners in its jails, emphasizing the need for the occupying authorities to adhere to international human rights conventions.

The missions welcomed the Israeli Supreme Court ruling declaring the ban on ICRC visits unlawful, calling for its full and immediate implementation following a prohibition that has been in place since October 2023.

Human rights organizations and the diplomatic missions warned of deteriorating humanitarian conditions for more than 9,000 Palestinian detainees, including thousands held under administrative detention without charge or trial. These prisoners face harsh conditions, including starvation, torture, and the denial of medical care. The statement also expressed grave concern regarding the deteriorating health of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya—the detained director of Kamal Adwan Hospital—due to mistreatment and beatings while in custody.
