Ora e' toccato a Francesco Guccini andarsene.

One of the great privileges of an artist, an athlete, or a writer is that they leave behind testimonies that transcend their earthly journey.
You listen to Imagine and Lennon never died, you watch a video of Maradona and you always think of him as young and fast.
Now it's Francesco Guccini's turn to go.

He wasn't one of my idols, but as a kid strumming the guitar, I couldn't help but stumble upon his songs made of three-quarter chords and very long lyrics.
He was a witness of his time, more anarchist than communist, otherwise he wouldn't have written The Prague Spring.
I loved his songs in which he delved into history: "Byzantium," "Ophelia," "Don Quixote," "Van Loon."
Then a memorable piece for Stadio; "Swatch." Every time I listen to it, I get chills.

His songs included America but also the Via Emilia, politics but also philosophy, Cuba and Bologna.
I won't miss him now that he's gone because, like DeAndré, his songs will accompany me on the road I still have ahead of me.
I also read one of his novels, but it didn't strike me as an unforgettable work; he was better as a singer-songwriter, even if a bit niche.

There's been a lot of philosophizing about his flask of wine and his card games in a Bologna that no longer exists, but in reality he was a rigorous artist who knew how to surround himself with some of the best musicians then on the scene, who still tour Italy, bringing his music even without him.
A great man has left us, however; fortunately, his songs will always be with us.
