I realized that the midterm elections were a matter of global interest last Friday, during the post-match get-together with my "Villans" [friends/teammates]. Instead of the usual banter typical of guys our age—discussing which cholesterol medication to take, how long until retirement, the messes our kids are in, and so on—we ended up talking about these elections. We all hoped that the "stinker" would get a sound thrashing.
Everyone knows that if tomatoes cost 8 euros a kilo, it’s because someone made sure that would happen.
That said, even though the polls offered some clues, right up until the last minute I feared that the Americans—who, historically speaking, aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed—might continue to back that psychopath.
Instead, a "blue wave" swept everything and everyone away.

When a tide sweeps everything before it, unthinkable things can happen; people were elected who, in a "normal" America, would never have stood a chance—though the New York mayoral election had already provided some significant signals.
Ultimately, ideology aside, what matters to each of us is our own wallet. Even the yokels in the American heartland, when they go to fill up their tractors, start cursing up a storm the moment they see the price—and they know exactly whose fault it is.

Trump betrayed everyone.
He betrayed the "MAGA" crowd, who had pinned their hopes on him, believing he would look out for America—or, more specifically, their version of America.
He betrayed the Latinos, whose votes he had courted, only to have them arrested by ICE.
He betrayed religious America, especially in light of everything that came to light regarding Epstein. He betrayed the ranchers by granting advantages for the import of Argentine meat—all to help that other brainless idiot, Milei; I hope he’s the next one to get the hell out of the way.
He betrayed everyone who imports goods, because if you impose tariffs, you have to be prepared to collect them from other countries—starting with China.
He betrayed those living in border regions: first, he swore he would halt immigration, then he ended up arresting them—because, as it turned out, they were immigrants too.
He betrayed the armed forces by dragging them into a war with Iran—a disaster from start to finish—while covering up the losses suffered during the assault on Caracas and the kidnapping of Maduro.
He betrayed the cocaine-addicted Ukrainian—though, in that one instance, he actually got it right.

I’m not exactly jumping for joy over the Democrats' victory; I haven’t forgotten that they’re the ones who have always started these wars around the world. Still, I hope this new generation—young, multi-ethnic, and representing various faiths—can truly bring change to America.
The tycoon’s biggest mistake was trying to reshape the most multi-ethnic nation on earth—a country that has always been welcoming to everyone. While things certainly need to be regulated—just as they do everywhere else—that shouldn't be done by thugs like those in ICE.

I also hope these elections serve as a lesson for the Italian Left: you win by taking a clear stand, with well-defined ideas and concepts—not by trying to play both sides.
Today, if you chase the "center"—or align yourself with bottom-feeders like Renzi and Calenda, or certain factions within the Democratic Party (PD)—you’re destined to lose. Because people on the Left would rather stay home than cast a vote for such pieces of shit. What has unfolded in Europe over these past few weeks signals a desire for change—a sentiment echoed by developments in America.
The dismal era of von der Leyen, Kallas, Macron, Merz, Truss, Meloni, and other such trash is coming to an end.
I hope SĆ”nchez manages to survive; he’s the only one who actually deserves to remain in his position.

Now, we face two extremely dangerous years ahead.
With nothing left to lose—having taken a beating at home, much like others before him—Trump is likely to act decisively in the realm of foreign policy.
That is, of course, in addition to lining his own pockets—and those of his relatives and cronies—just as he has done over the past two years.
Whether he might attack Iran again, invade Cuba, or drop a nuclear bomb on China—every scenario is on the table.
I am not entirely familiar with the checks and balances between the President and Congress, but I hope the latter has the power to rein in the tycoon and prevent him from dragging the entire world to hell.

It will be interesting to see what the lackeys he has surrounded himself with—Rubio, Vance, and the rest of the lot—decide to do.
When a King begins to fall, his courtiers usually pack up and leave, hoping to avoid being dragged down with him.
As for Cuba, I don’t foresee many changes in the short term; though a weakened Trump might embolden other nations to act with more courage, potentially resuming trade relations with the island without the fear of tariffs or punitive levies.
We shall see—but one thing is certain: this marks the beginning of the end for that stinking wretch.
