Hello! Welcome back to my daily diary routine. My day did not start with a grand breakfast table. It started with what I had, what I love, and what could keep me going.
I started my day with fried plantain and Vitamilk. It’s not a breakfast they teach in nutrition school, but it’s a breakfast that understands me. The plantain was hot when I fried it, sizzling in the oil, filling the kitchen with that sweet aroma that makes you stand beside the frying pan. The Vitamilk was cold, chilled from the fridge, and together they balanced each other perfectly. Sweet meets smooth. Hot meets cold. I had to be on the move, so I wrapped the plantain using foil to avoid oil staining. That’s a trick I learned early, if you don’t want oil to stain your bag, your book, or your clothes, foil is your best friend. It keeps the food warm, keeps the oil in, and keeps you neat. Professional even when you’re eating fried plantain.

Afternoon came with a bigger appetite. In the afternoon, I ate a mixture of jollof rice and fried rice with egg. That legendary combination they call “two-in-one” at parties. Some people fight over which is better, jollof or fried rice. I don’t fight. I mix them. The smoky, rich taste of jollof and the colorful, vegetable-filled taste of fried rice together is pure joy. I added a fried egg on top, sunny side slightly crispy at the edges, because every rice deserves a crown. I sat down properly for this one. No rushing. I ate slowly, enjoying how the flavours blended. It was satisfying, filling, and it felt like a reward for pushing through the morning.

Then night fell, and my taste changed again. At night, I went for something lighter but deeply comforting, white soup and garri. White soup, or Ofe Nsala, is not white because of colour, but because of how it’s made — no palm oil, just yam, fresh fish or meat, utazi, and that distinct aroma that warms your chest. Paired with garri that I turned myself, smooth and firm, it was the perfect way to end the day. No heaviness, no noise. Just a quiet, warm meal that made me feel at home. Hope you enjoyed my daily food combination for the day. Thank you Family.
