Gli hack crypto stanno diventando un problema per Bitcoin?

Nel 2026 sono già stati rubati circa 1,7 miliardi di dollari in crypto, attraverso più di 300 incidenti.

E non siamo ancora alla fine dell'anno.

Insomma, non proprio una cifra che fa stare tranquilli.

Ma la domanda che mi faccio è un'altra, è se questi hack stanno mettendo in discussione la fiducia in Bitcoin?

Uno degli ultimi casi è quello di Liquid Network, dove sono stati sottratti circa 319 milioni di dollari in Bitcoin.

È vero che circa l'85% dei fondi è stato successivamente restituito.
Però il restante 15% - e parliamo comunque di milioni di dollari - non è stato recuperato

Prima ancora avevamo visto:
KelpDAO: circa 292 milioni di dollari

Drift Protocol: circa 285 milioni

Tectonic: circa 74 milioni

E questi sono solo alcuni dei casi più importanti.

Si tratta di numeri enormi.

Però, secondo me, una cosa va chiarita, e cioè che nessuno di questi casi significa che qualcuno abbia "hackerato Bitcoin".

Nel caso Liquid, per esempio, il problema riguardava l'infrastruttura della sidechain Liquid, non la blockchain Bitcoin.

E questa distinzione è importantissima.

Ma allora , il vero problema qual è?

Forse non è Bitcoin. Forse è tutto quello che negli anni abbiamo costruito intorno a Bitcoin e alle altre blockchain.

Bridge.
DeFi.
Sidechain.
Smart contract.
Oracle.
Multisig.
Governance.
Infrastrutture cross-chain.

Più aggiungiamo livelli e collegamenti, più aumentano anche i possibili punti deboli.

E oggi gli hacker non devono necessariamente trovare un gigantesco bug nel codice.

A volte basta compromettere una chiave privata. Un account. Un membro del team. Un sistema di governance. Oppure convincere una persona a fare qualcosa che non dovrebbe fare.

E, come sempre, gli hacker cercano di stare al passo con la tecnologia.
Phishing sempre più credibili, deepfake e automazione possono rendere alcuni attacchi più economici e scalabili.

E purtroppo, tutti questi attacchi stanno erodendo la fiducia, soprattutto verso DeFi, bridge e protocolli più complessi e meno maturi.

E per chi sta pensando di entrare nel mondo crypto, vedere centinaia di milioni di dollari sparire in un attacco non è certamente rassicurante.

È necessario trovare al più presto, il modo di rafforzare le infrastrutture dei progetti basati su blockchain per tutelare meglio gli investitori e aumentare la fiducia nel settore crypto.

Perché alla fine, se vogliamo che le crypto vengano utilizzate sempre da più persone, non basta costruire nuove tecnologie.

Dobbiamo anche imparare a renderle più sicure.

Are Crypto Hacks Becoming a Problem for Bitcoin?

In 2026, approximately $1.7 billion in crypto has already been stolen across more than 300 incidents.

And we're not even at the end of the year yet.

Not exactly a reassuring figure.

But the question I'm asking myself is this:

Are these hacks undermining trust in Bitcoin?

One of the latest cases is Liquid Network, where approximately $319 million worth of Bitcoin was stolen.

It's true that around 85% of the funds were subsequently returned.

However, the remaining 15% - still worth millions of dollars - has not been recovered.

Before that, we had seen:

KelpDAO: approximately $292 million

Drift Protocol: approximately $285 million

Tectonic: approximately $74 million

And these are just some of the most significant cases.

We're talking about enormous amounts of money.

But, in my opinion, there's one important point that needs to be clarified:

None of these cases means that someone has "hacked Bitcoin."

In the case of Liquid, for example, the problem involved the infrastructure of the Liquid sidechain, not the Bitcoin blockchain itself.

And that distinction is extremely important.

So, what is the real problem?

Maybe it's not Bitcoin. Maybe it's everything we've built around Bitcoin and other blockchains over the years.

Bridges.
DeFi.
Sidechains.
Smart contracts.
Oracles.
Multisigs.
Governance.
Cross-chain infrastructure.

The more layers and connections we add, the more potential weak points we create.

And today, hackers don't necessarily need to find a massive bug in the code.

Sometimes, all it takes is compromising a private key. An account. A team member. A governance system. Or simply convincing someone to do something they shouldn't.

And, as always, hackers are trying to keep up with technology.

More convincing phishing attacks, deepfakes, and automation can make some attacks cheaper and easier to scale.

Unfortunately, all these attacks are also eroding trust, especially in DeFi, bridges, and more complex and less mature protocols.

And for people who are thinking about entering the crypto world, seeing hundreds of millions of dollars disappear in an attack is certainly not reassuring.

We need to find, as soon as possible, ways to strengthen the infrastructure of blockchain-based projects in order to better protect investors and increase trust in the crypto sector.

Because in the end, if we want crypto to be used by more and more people, it's not enough to keep building new technologies.

We also need to learn how to make them safer.
