No new live tunnel rescue has been confirmed. Reuters today published a handout of teams carrying a body from the Chilime hydropower tunnel.

Identification is now the operation

NDRRMA told Reuters it has DNA from 1,206 bodies and 1,889 relatives of the missing. Names returned: 105.

The Department of Tourism added a sharper foreign line: 607 tourists from 34 countries still unaccounted for — many bound for Kailash or Gosainkunda at Janai Purnima.

Onlinekhabar also flagged a legal hole: families of the missing often cannot register a death while the person is only “unaccounted for.” No certificate means no inheritance, no bank, no rite that the state will recognize.

The bill, restated at three weeks

A Nepal News three-week timeline put physical damage and losses at about USD 2.7 billion (Rs 408 billion), with the private sector carrying close to Rs 300 billion. Reconstruction asked of the world is still the Foreign Ministry figure from last week: $4.78 billion. Those are different layers — damage versus rebuild.

Also this week: hydropower tariff rebates for survivors; Japan’s ambassador met Prime Minister Balendra Shah and pledged reconstruction support; gauges at Rasuwagadhi, Syaphru Besi, Betrawati and Phurke Khola are gone, replaced at Timure by a CCTV camera.

Shah still speaks at the UN General Assembly on 24 September.
