Achievement 3: By @growwithnens Task: Content Etiquette
Hello steemians, it's your girl @growwithnens moving on to her third task here on steemit. Have taken my time reading through some articles here on steemit that talks about content etiquette and plagiarism. I must confess I have really really learnt a great lot.
And now I would be educating us on what plagiarism entails!!!!!!
As a steemian I have seen that here on steemit, content is the real currency and anytime we hit that PUBLISH button , we are asking the community and the curation teams to reward us with real financial value through upvotes. And because of this very reason plagiarism isn't just a violation of internet etiquette, it is treated like an outright Fraudulent activity.
"Plagiarism is presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without their consent by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement."
Oxford University Academic Integrity Guide
Personally, plagiarism means presenting or showcasing someone else's intellectual property, his time, his brain power, his thoughts and his own creative writing as if they originated from my own mind. This includes copying and pasting some chunks of the text directly but also covers paraphrasing plagiarism.
This actually happens when someone takes an article, swaps a few words around it using AI tools and pretends they wrote it themselves. Steemit Curators now use highly advanced tools to detect this and getting caught completely destroys your reputation score and may even land you in a permanent blacklist.
True original content shows you are sharing your original voice, personal stories and individual perspective. If in any way I need to use someone else's creative idea to support my argument, then I must openly acknowledge them.
Giving a good proper credit doesn't make a post weak rather it shows I did my research and respect the creator community. So say no to plagiarism.
