Diary of Lionel-Richie — I Almost Skipped It, Then Something Changed
Have you ever planned to do something, felt too tired to do it, but somehow ended up enjoying it once you actually started?
That's me today.
I woke up feeling lazy about my routine workout. My body was still tired and I was feeling pains all over, so staying in bed sounded like the easier option.
But I still got myself up and started.
Interestingly, I ended up spending more time than usual outside. I met a group of guys while I was there, and somehow their company made the whole thing more enjoyable.
What was supposed to be a normal routine turned into a longer session simply because I was enjoying the people around me.
It made me think about something we sometimes overlook: our environment can affect how we experience an activity.
The same activity can feel boring when you're alone and completely different when you have good company.
Eventually, I left them and headed home.
I got to the bathroom, washed up and immediately got dressed again because I had an important event at school.
As a departmental executive, there are certain things I can't afford to stay away from, especially when I'm expected to be there. This was actually similar to what happened during our last meeting.
I got to school and stayed for a while until the event was over. It was just any event tho, it was a familiarisation process too, because different executives from different department got to meet and greet each other and literally we started making a bond with people we met there.
Moving on, we had different lecturers and speaker come up to talk on the importance of leadership and how leaders should act toward all and sundry. It was indeed an impactful moment.
At the end, our certificates of return as departmental executives were shared among us. It didn't matter how many executives were present; everyone was given theirs.
It was one of those small moments that reminded me that some responsibilities come with being part of a team.
Since it was Thursday, I couldn't stay around for too long. I headed home, rested a little and prepared for the 5 PM church service.
Church was quite interesting, although I had one little distraction.
There was this baby who had apparently discovered that she could walk, and she was making sure everyone knew about it. She kept walking around and barely allowed me to concentrate properly.
I eventually took a picture of her without her knowing. I guess you wish to see her.
That's actually something I like doing. I want to keep those little pictures and, hopefully, show them to her when she's older. It would be funny to show her how she looked when she was still learning to walk.
After the service, I was seriously hungry.
I rushed home because I already knew my aunt would probably have something waiting. I didn't know what she had prepared, but I was hoping it would be something tasty and nutritious.
And guess what?
Afang soup.
That was the dinner waiting for me.
After the kind of day I had, a proper Nigerian meal was exactly what I needed.
Maybe the day didn't go exactly how I expected it to, but I'm glad I didn't stay in bed this morning.
Sometimes, you just have to start.
You never really know what might make the experience better once you do.
