The Diary Game — The White Shirt That Almost Lost Its Glory

This morning, I woke up feeling lazy about going for my usual workout. I stayed in bed until a visitor knocked, looking for my brother. That was when I finally got up.

It turned out to be a food vendor who sells pap, akara and bread. Apparently, my brother had arranged for her to deliver breakfast to me since he had already gone out. Now, that's one way to wake somebody up.

After receiving the food, I sat on the couch for a while, trying to gather enough strength to face the day.

Eventually, I got moving. I cleaned the house, washed the dishes, swept the surroundings and then remembered a white shirt I had neglected for quite some time.

The shirt was no longer looking white. It had turned brownish, and I needed it for tomorrow's church service. Buying another one wasn't something I was ready to do at the moment, so I decided to give the old one a serious wash.

I soaked it with detergent and a little bleach in warm water, then left it for a while.

After that, I prepared my breakfast, ate and rested.

When the sun came out properly, I returned to my laundry. Guess what? That shirt came out sparkling!

Honestly, I was surprised at the result. For a moment, I even started imagining myself running a laundry business. The satisfaction I got from seeing that shirt return to its former glory was something else.

But in the middle of my excitement, I remembered something important. I had been so focused on what I accomplished that I almost forgot to thank God for the little things that made it possible.

I needed that shirt for tomorrow, I wasn't sure how clean I could get it, and I wasn't prepared to buy a new one. Yet, here I was, with a clean shirt ready for use. I had every reason to be grateful.

Don't worry, I'll show you how I look in it in tomorrow's diary when I get to church.

Later, I visited my mum at her shop, and she suggested I go home and keep my dad company. Since I'm still on break from school, I had no serious reason to refuse. I went over, helped him wash the clothes he needed for tomorrow's service, and spent some time on my phone watching Netflix.

Right now, I'm waiting for the electricity to return so I can iron the clothes and complete my laundry.

For breakfast, I had pap, akara and a few fries. For dinner, I'm thinking of making coconut rice. My mum gave me some coconuts, so I already have a good reason to try it.

Looking back, it wasn't an extraordinary day. I struggled to get out of bed, did my chores, rescued a shirt and spent time with my parents.

But sometimes, a fulfilled day doesn't have to be packed with exciting activities. Getting the little things done, helping family and having food to eat can be enough.

And yes, that white shirt deserves some credit today.
