Let’s Go Shopping | My Fish Shopping Trip to the Local Market

Today, I am going to share my local market shopping experience.

Durga Puja has started for the Hindu community. When I went out onto the road near our house, it looked like a small fair.

I went out to buy vegetables. On the way, I saw some hot, freshly fried jilapi. I bought 500 grams of jilapi.

There was also some hot, freshly fried khurma made with jaggery. It is prepared using flour. The combination of flour and jaggery gives this khurma a wonderful crispy texture.

After that, I noticed a dried fish shop. Dried fish is a very popular food in our country. There are many traditional ways of preparing dried fish, such as dried fish bhorta, dried fish curry, and sidol made with dried fish, among many other dishes.

It is natural for Bengalis to have a special love for hilsa fish. Hilsa comes to Saidpur from Bhola, Chandpur, and Barishal.

The hilsa fish at the market looked quite beautiful that day. However, as an ordinary person, buying hilsa has become very difficult nowadays.

Currently, 1 kg of hilsa is being sold for around ৳2,800.

I was craving something sour and spicy. There was a fairly large pickle shop beside the road, so I went there to buy some pickles. There were many different types of pickles available, such as:

After that, I visited a small shop selling dolls. There were many kinds of home decoration items as well as toys for children. These items do not have any fixed market prices. You have to understand the items and judge their value before buying them.

Then I went to buy sweets for our home from our favourite sweet shop. The sweets there are delicious, and their taste is a little different from those of other shops. Many kinds of sweets are available there, such as:
