The Diary game [12/08/2026] // The Ultimate Cameroonian Rainy-Day Comfort Food.

Hi guys, accept warm greetings from the motherland of Cameroon, and welcome back to my blog! ❤️ It has literally been raining cats and dogs in my area, and honestly, the weather has been unfriendly. For over a week now, we have been battling serious flooding caused by the continuous downpour and, of course, poor drainage systems.

Moving around has become a serious challenge. On days when the rain decides to fall from morning until night, you practically have to forget about going anywhere unless it is necessary. Roads become flooded, vehicles struggle to pass, and pedestrians are left wondering how they will get from one point to another without swimming😂.

This particular day was one of those days when the rain started early and showed no sign of stopping. As I stayed indoors listening to the sound of raindrops hitting the roof, I suddenly realised that cold weather comes with one special responsibility which is that you must find something hot to eat😋. And that was how the menu for the day was decided. Accra beans and pap, if you are from Cameroon, chances are you know exactly what I am talking about.

Accra beans, are one of those simple local delicacies that can turn an ordinary rainy day into something memorable. They are made from ground beans, mixed with the right ingredients and deep-fried until they become beautifully golden and crispy on the outside while remaining soft and delicious inside.

And then comes the perfect companion, hot pap and there is just something comforting about a steaming bowl of pap on a cold and rainy day. The warmth travels through you, and for a moment, you forget about the flooded streets, blocked roads and all the frustrations caused by the weather.

I got into the kitchen and started preparing my rainy-day comfort food. The sound of the rain outside provided the perfect background music as I worked. Soon, the aroma of freshly fried Accra beans began filling the house. By the time the pap was ready, I was already impatient to eat 😂. I served myself a generous portion of the hot pap alongside the freshly fried Accra beans. The combination was simply heavenly and the crispy texture of the Accra beans perfectly complemented the smooth and warm pap.

Honestly, rainy weather + hot pap + Accra beans = happiness ☺️. As I sat down to enjoy my meal, I could not help but think about how food has a way of making difficult moments feel a little better. We may complain about the rain, the flooding and the poor drainage, but sometimes, a simple homemade meal can bring comfort when we need it most.

Of course, beyond the food, the flooding situation remains a serious concern. When rain continues for days and drainage systems cannot handle the water, movement becomes restricted and people's homes, businesses and livelihoods are put at risk. It is a situation that deserves serious attention because nobody should have to fear getting trapped or losing property whenever it rains heavily. But for that particular day, I decided to focus on the little things I could control.

Notwithstanding, sometimes happiness is not found in something expensive. Sometimes, it is simply sitting at home on a cold rainy day with a hot bowl of pap and some freshly fried Accra beans.
