Be Yourself: They Call Me Timid. I Call It Peace.

in STEEM FOR BETTERLIFE • 18 days ago (edited)

Boring. Timid. Quiet. Too slow. These are the labels people give me, and I'm fine with them. A philosphee once said it's does not matter what people say about you, what really matters is what you as a person think of yourself. He said success comes from self-conviction that you are a success.

the quiet one, but at peace with who I am

While I was secondary school, I was told I was boring. At church and at home, I'm told I'm too timid. Even while at my mother's shop, customers qillsay I'm quiet, that I should be sharper, and some even say I behave like a girl. Same person, different labels, depending on who is looking. These are happenstances that had made me into what I am today and I'm grateful for.

studying is where I'm mostly myself

The truth is simple. I'm an introvert. I love studying, and I'm not against parties, swimming or visiting friends' houses. They're just not for me. The people who know me closely say I'm caring, loving, honest, simple and gentle. That's just who I am. I care for my little friends that I have, even while I'm finding it hard to make new friends. I'm grateful for few friends I have right now.

staying calm at my mother's shop

At my mother's shop, some customers who owe money argue back and forth, and I stay calm. After a lot of talk, they check their records and find they haven't paid, and they're embarrassed. I didn't shout, and the records did the talking. In school, my quiet way of doing things worked for me. From SS1 to SS3, I was the top of my class and the senior prefect.

I also keep my distance on purpose. I once heard a motivational speaker say that familiarity brings disrespect. It was about ten years ago and I can't remember what else he said, but I tested it myself, and it turned out to really true. I learnt the less people know about me, the more they seems to respect me.

a peaceful living

That's why I just smile when people label me. Their praise doesn't get to me, so their insults can't either. I'm not timid, I'm at peace. @wakeupkitty thank you for giving me this platform to express how I felt. This is @haagaii, being myself. When was the last time you felt free to be yourself? Tell me in the comments.

Boring would be a place where everybody is the same.

I like you very much, being calmed and having inner peace is a bless.

I don't think being shy is a bad thing, maybe too shy is not so good, just like opening yourself too much can be dangerous. Once they told me they liked I am prudent, I think is one of the best things I've heard, I try to always keep it in mind.

But I also remember once I strongly felt I needed to speak outloud defending my point, I'm still feeling pointed for giving my opinion. Maybe I wasn't so prudent but I was defending my convictions. It's not easy to feel maybe I just should have ignored.

When you are too quiet and all of a sudden show some criticism it makes them angry since they didn't expect that.

People most time don't understand another way to think...or to be. And I think when they don't have anything to say, they just repeat what somebody else said.

Yes. Thank you so much for this comment. There is a saying that goes 'a closed mouth is a closed destiny', everyone needs to speak up when needed.
