Is storytelling, writing stories an art, or is it something you can learn? I think anyone can learn to write a story, and I also believe that there is a reader out there for every story. Perhaps not today, but tomorrow, in a month’s time, or even in a few years’ time.

On Steemit, you’ll find a large number of themed communities. In most of these communities, the theme is no longer visible. People post literally anything and everything, and it seems that the average Steemian pays little heed to the rules set by the community, or that they simply go from one community to another, dropping posts relating to their own niche. The most likely reason is to get upvotes.
The average poster thinks only of the moment and would rather not go to the trouble of helping to build something together. Conversely, people do come to post as soon as there’s something to be gained and the community – thanks to the hard work of a small number of people – is finally visible and can provide better upvotes. As soon as that opportunity disappears, the poster (the fake member) moves on to the next community to profit from it there. This behaviour does not go unnoticed and has nothing to do with hard work, not to mention the lack of personality and loyalty.

This is a particular thorn in the side of themed communities – in this case, the creative communities. These communities are keen to stick to their theme, and this must be evident in the posts. It is certainly not about amassing 100 members, and it is also clear that these ‘yellow’ members will certainly not always be active. The genuinely creative person for whom this is a way of life is busy, and creating something takes time and attention.

The administrators and moderators of creative communities are, on the whole, creative themselves and possess more than one skill. They are often more tolerant and have a better understanding of the creative spirit. This means that you don’t always have to colour within the lines, but it doesn’t mean that everything is acceptable.
By ‘everything’, I mean in this case the few rules that have been set regarding language, the type of posts and interaction amongst members.

Playing the role of a police officer is a difficult task for most creative people; after all, art is freedom, and those who value their own freedom do not wish to patronise others. Yet this proves necessary when the community is put at risk.

For the average user of this platform, it is completely unclear what the hashtag #story means.
