I am delighted to participate in SLC33-W5: "| Our Surroundings: Let´s Talk About The News - Let’s talk about the economy in your region?
I always have an enthusiasm about shopping. Its always feel good, whenever I go out for shopping. Recently I,ve visited a ready made garments shop for collecting some of my daily wearing goods called “Texmart”. It has so many outlet all over the country such as Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rongpur etc.. I,ve visited a Texmart outlet at Mohhamadpur, Dhaka. It is located beside the Sia Mosque circle & beside the Apex. The shop,s outer texture is extraordinary beautiful with glass wall and outstanding interior with colorful lighting. The outlet consists of 2 floor connected with an internal steel stair.

After entering Texmart through the front entrance, I noticed that the different sections of clothing were arranged in a neat and organized way. The store mainly offers men’s clothing, with a good selection of stylish and trendy designs.Their collection includes formal shirts, T-shirts, polo shirts, formal trousers, denim jeans, and other men’s wear.

Each product had a clearly displayed price tag, so customers could easily check the price without needing to ask the sales staff.I also found that most sizes were available, which made it easier to choose the right fit. The outlet had three small trial rooms, allowing customers to try on their preferred clothes before making a purchase. Overall, the store was well-organized and convenient for customers.

Casual Shirt

I selected a pair of denim jeans and a T-shirt for myself and my younger brother. In terms of quality, I was quite satisfied with the products. The stitching and fabric texture felt good, and the clothes were comfortable to wear with a nice fit. The prices also seemed reasonable and competitive compared to similar products from other popular brands such as Infinity, Ecstasy, and Easy. Overall, I found the combination of quality, comfort, design, and price quite satisfactory.

Occasionally they offer some flat discount on every product or special discount on some particular product according to their selling policy. The discount type and amount generally depend on the company’s sales strategy, seasonal promotion, new designed product launches, or promotional activities.

After selection my product, I went to the trail room located in a corner. Then came out and told sells stuff to pack those product. The billing process was very simple & hassle free. They accept all types of payment method such as cash, card, mobile banking, credit card and so on. I personally prefer cash. After finishing the payment system, they handed my product in a premium quality shopping bag featuring their logo on it. Texmart gives a small but thoughtful gesture to the overall shopping experience.

Finally, I was satisfied with the overall behaviour and friendly gestures of the staff towards the customers. They were basically polite, attentive, and helpful throughout the shopping period, which provided a welcoming and comfortable environment to me. I think customer service plays an important role in making a shopping and make experience enjoyable, since their positive attitude significantly enhanced my overall impression of the store.

What are the main economic sectors in your region currently?

I live in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, situated almost in the center of the country. Although Dhaka is not very large in terms of land area, its location has made it the country’s main center for business, trade, transportation, and other economic activities. The city’s economy is mainly supported by sectors such as textiles and garments, construction, banking, healthcare, education, transportation, and logistics. Over the last two decades, the rapid growth of residential buildings, commercial areas, roads, and other infrastructure has created many jobs. Alongside these traditional sectors, the IT industry has also grown quickly, creating new opportunities in software development, freelancing, outsourcing, and digital marketing. All of these activities have played an important role in making Dhaka the major employment and economic hub of Bangladesh.

How would you describe the relationship between average income and expenses in your community? Tell us about basic goods and services.

The relationship between income and living expenses in Dhaka is quite challenging. The city covers around 1,528 square kilometers and has a very high population density of roughly 33,000 people per square kilometer. Although Dhaka offers more employment opportunities than most other parts of the country, the cost of living has also increased significantly, making it difficult for many people to manage their everyday expenses. The major expenses include house rent, education, healthcare, food and groceries, electricity, gas, water, transportation, mobile and internet services, clothing, and other household necessities. Middle- and lower-income families often struggle to meet these basic needs, especially when housing and food prices continue to rise. Inflation has also reduced the purchasing power of people's income, meaning that the same amount of money can no longer cover as many necessities as it did before. As a result, earning an income in Dhaka does not always mean having a comfortable standard of living.

Are there education and job training programs available? How do they influence regional productivity?

Yes, Dhaka city has education and job-training programs available. The countries top level Universities such as Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology(BUET), Dhaka University(DU), Jagganath University, Dhaka Medical College (DMC), Sir-Solimullah Medical College (SSMC), Bangladesh Medical University(BMU) as well as numerous private universities, & renownded technical Institution is located in Dhaka city, where teachers & students are having research on new ideas & innovation. Apart from that, others programe focused on Information technology and programming Graphic design , Digital marketing, Freelancing, Electrical and electronics work, Mechanical and industrial skills, Garments and textile technology, Welding and fabrication, Automobile servicing Business, and entrepreneurship Language and communication skills, which contribute directly to local economy.

Are there any infrastructure projects that could change the economic landscape in the near future?

Yes. Over the last 15 years, both the government and private sector have invested heavily in improving Dhaka’s infrastructure, and these developments have already had a noticeable impact on the city’s economy. One of the most important projects is the Metro Rail, which carries a large number of passengers every day and makes travel between different parts of the city faster and easier. By reducing commuting time, it also helps people reach their workplaces with less stress and saves valuable time. The Dhaka Elevated Expressway is another major project that has made transportation between the northern and southern parts of the city more convenient. In the coming years, projects like these can further improve productivity by reducing travel delays, supporting business and logistics, and connecting people with more job opportunities. However, proper planning, regular maintenance, and efficient management will be important to make sure these investments continue to benefit Dhaka in the long run.

If a foreigner were to come looking for a job in your region, what would you recommend? In which sector and area could they find employment immediately?

If a foreigner came to Dhaka looking for a job, I would recommend the garment and manufacturing sector. My recommendation is not mainly because it is highly profitable, but because it has been a relatively stable part of Bangladesh’s economy for many years. The industry has developed a strong reputation through its skilled workers, product quality, and ability to meet international orders and deadlines. The garment sector also plays a major role in earning foreign currency for Bangladesh and supporting millions of jobs. Many garment and manufacturing industries are located in Dhaka and the areas surrounding the city, so there are opportunities for people with relevant skills and experience. However, Bangladesh still has relatively low labour costs compared with many other countries, so although jobs may be available, salaries may not always meet the expectations of foreign workers.

Environmental problems are becoming a serious concern in Dhaka as the city continues to grow rapidly. The increasing population, construction work, traffic, and business activities are putting more pressure on the environment. One of the biggest problems is air pollution. Dhaka’s average PM2.5 level has been reported at around 68 µg/m³, which is much higher than the World Health Organization’s recommended level of 5 µg/m³. In 2025, Dhaka was also listed among the world’s most polluted major cities. Air pollution is not the only problem. The city also struggles with polluted water, poor waste management, excessive noise, and a lack of open and green spaces. Rapid urbanization is also putting greater pressure on natural resources. These issues affect everyday life in many ways, from people's health and comfort to their overall quality of life.

Although there have been some improvements, Dhaka still has a long way to go. Better waste management, more green spaces, cleaner transportation, and stronger environmental rules are needed. With proper planning and greater public awareness, Dhaka can become a cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable city for everyone.
