Steemit Challenge Season 35 - Week 1

Steemit Challenge Season 35 - Week 1

My vision for enhancing participation

Participating in the Steemit Challenge Season has been an ongoing exercise in learning and reflection. I didn’t usually participate—I preferred to write only about topics I felt a need to address—but something in @casv prompt compelled me to join in. I’ve now decided to take part in every season, as it puts my creativity to the test across a variety of subjects. However, upon reflecting and evaluating the current structure, I see opportunities for improvement that could make the experience far more engaging, fluid, and fair for all active users.

What part would you remove from the current challenge, and what would you add?

In the following paragraphs, I present my reasoned analysis regarding which aspects should be adjusted or removed, as well as a new proposal that would enrich future seasons.

What part would I remove from the current challenge format?

If I had to propose the removal of a specific element from the weekly challenge dynamic, it would be the overly rigid thematic restrictions that sometimes stifle the natural flow of content.

For instance, I often write about current affairs—topics that rarely get discussed elsewhere because mainstream media outlets steer clear of them. These are significant issues that affect us all—matters concerning rights, freedoms, and political developments like wars or conflicts. Despite the high quality of these posts, they receive no recognition; instead, all the attention gravitates toward the most-voted entry. I’ve even seen pieces that align closely with the suggested themes but offer a unique, original perspective—yet they, too, go unnoticed.

Many creators have found that, at times, the guidelines for a given week are so specific—or the deadlines so tight—that they are forced to churn out a post just to stick to the schedule. Rather than developing an idea with the time and passion it deserves, they end up resorting to quick fixes or repetitive approaches.

When quantity or speed is prioritized over the quality of reflection, the platform risks becoming saturated with mechanical, formulaic content. Removing this pressure to "post just for the sake of posting" would allow authors to produce work with more soul, depth, and genuine value for the reader.

Furthermore, some people—due to their personal interests, professional backgrounds, or areas of expertise—find the standard weekly topics unengaging. This creates a dilemma: do you write about something that doesn’t interest you just to secure votes, or do you write about something you’re truly passionate about, knowing it will likely receive no attention at all?

What would I add to enrich the dynamic?

To strike a better balance and boost participation within the communities, I would introduce two key elements: the creation or designation of specific, focused topics for each community, and the formal recognition of collaborative effort.

Currently, many communities cover a wide, eclectic mix of subjects—everything from cooking, recipes, and life advice to daily games. While that’s perfectly fine—and some people are truly passionate about those topics—others may be more drawn to subjects like politics, science, current affairs, personal anecdotes, or news. I believe that if more specialized communities were established and actively encouraged, it would foster a richer exchange of ideas among people with shared interests. This is especially important because nothing feels more forced than having to write about something you don’t actually care about.

By bringing together people with similar interests, the "buzz" and engagement will naturally intensify. Everything will flow more organically, without pressuring anyone to participate in tasks they don’t genuinely want to do—and, importantly, without any need to rely on artificial intelligence.

Regarding open, collaborative question-based dynamics—much like the "meta-questions" proposed by user @casv—I would love to see a system where, one week each month, active users themselves propose and vote on the challenge questions. This ensures that the topics directly address the specific interests, concerns, and realities that the community is experiencing at that very moment.

In conclusion, Steemit’s challenges serve as the backbone of our daily motivation; they push us to avoid stagnation and keep our creativity alive. However, true evolution requires listening to those of us who, day after day, dedicate our time, effort, and pieces of our daily lives to writing here.

Breaking free from rigid structures and creating more spaces for authentic interaction and community co-creation could provide the definitive boost needed for this great digital family to continue growing and thriving.
