SLC-S33/W4 | Beyond the Map: A Place That Changed Me

Everyone surely has a special place that holds memorable stories. Sometimes there are places we visit just once and then immediately forget, but there are certainly places that leave a lasting impression and change the way we view life. This time, I’d like to introduce Sunset Beach Bamboo Bar & Resort, located on Weh Island. This place isn’t just about natural beauty—it’s also a place that gave me an experience that made me appreciate the meaning of tranquility, friendship, and time for myself even more.
During my trip there, there were certainly several particularly memorable moments from my visit to Weh Island. Amid the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, my friends and I finally had the chance to enjoy the peaceful beach atmosphere—to be honest, this was my first time crossing the sea. Our purpose in going there wasn’t simply to seek luxury, but to enjoy time together while listening to the soothing sound of the waves.

Where is this place located, how can visitors reach it, and when did you visit it?
---
Sunset Beach Bamboo Bar & Resort is located on Bangau Street, Paya, Sukajaya District, Sabang City, Aceh. It is situated right on the coast of Weh Island, offering panoramic ocean views that face directly toward the sunset in the west.
To get there, you’ll need to cross from Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh to Balohan Port in Sabang by speedboat or ferry. Once in Sabang, you’ll need to continue your journey by motorcycle or car—a trip that takes about 25–30 minutes to reach Sunset Beach.
My friends and I visited this beautiful place on the afternoon of July 29, 2026. For this trip, I traveled by motorcycle. There were seven of us, so we brought four motorcycles.

What personal experience made this place so meaningful?
---
Actually, there are many tourist spots there that certainly offer beautiful views, but we need to realize that not all of them can bring peace to our minds and bodies. As we sat together with friends on the beach, I realized that happiness doesn’t have to come from luxury; in fact, something as simple as this feels so much more profound.
We spent the afternoon together chatting, enjoying some snacks, and watching the waves roll in one after another. The most fascinating part was waiting for the sun to slowly sink below the western horizon, but since the weather this afternoon wasn’t very clear, we didn’t get to see much of the sunset. I really felt the absence of traffic noise like you hear on the outskirts of town—no city hustle and bustle, just the sea breeze, the sound of the waves, and almost everyone there laughing and joking, which made the atmosphere feel so peaceful.

That gave me an unforgettable experience and taught me that everyone needs time to pause for a moment, enjoy nature, and spend time with the people who matter most. Since that trip, I’ve come to appreciate the balance between work, responsibilities, and even time to enjoy life.

What significance does this place have for the local community?
---
Not only is Sunset Beach Bamboo Bar & Resort a favorite tourist destination in Sabang, but it also benefits both the local community and visitors from around the world. Tourist attractions like this create job opportunities, boost the income of local businesses, and showcase the natural beauty of Weh Island to both domestic and international tourists.
Most notably, the resort’s architecture—dominated by bamboo and other natural materials—creates an eco-friendly atmosphere that harmonizes perfectly with the natural beauty of the beach.
