My Weekly Food Highlight, Take a look
Greetings,
How is everyone doing? I am @rauja. Today, I am participating for the first time in the wonderful contest titled "My Weekly Food Highlight, Take a Look," organized by @negonyi. I am delighted to take part in this competition. It offers a great opportunity to share delicious dishes with everyone and to talk about the experience of preparing them.
1. Chicken Shawarma for Breakfast

For breakfast especially on holidays, I always prefer options that are either easily accessible or quick to prepare. It’s even better if the food happens to be delicious! On 1st October, I had a chicken shawarma for breakfast. I didn’t make it myself, though; I bought it from a shop near my home. This particular shop, located by the highway, is quite well-known for its shawarma.
Made with cucumber, mayonnaise, small pieces of grilled chicken, and wrapped in a naan (flatbread), this chicken shawarma is as visually appealing as it is tasty. With ingredients like chicken, cucumber, and flatbread, it makes for an excellent breakfast choice. Each chicken shawarma costs 120 Taka (24 steem) a great price for such a delicious meal.
Ingredients in the Shawarma
| Ingredients | Details |
|---|---|
| Chicken | Small pieces of grilled chicken |
| Cucumber | Freshly sliced |
| Mayonnaise | Added for creaminess |
| Tomato sauce | Added for extra flavor |
| Naan bread | Used to wrap the filling |
2. Spiced Hog Plums Before Lunch

Citrus and other tart-tasting fruits are rich in Vitamin C, which is highly beneficial for our bodies. For this reason, I generally try to eat such fruits before my midday meal. I particularly enjoy consuming various local fruits such as raw mango, pomelo, hog plum (amra), guava, and olives prior to lunch. Today, I sliced some hog plums, seasoned them with a bit of salt and chili powder, mixed them well, and thoroughly enjoyed them. If available, I also like to add a touch of kasundi (a pungent mustard condiment). Adding these seasonings enhances the flavor of the fruit even further. Since I am not very fond of sweet foods, tart fruits serve as an excellent alternative for me.
I am often unable to purchase imported fruits; therefore, local varieties have become my preferred choice. These fruits provide me with Vitamin C and a range of other essential nutrients. Furthermore, because local fruits are generally more affordable, they do not place an undue strain on my budget. If an item becomes a financial burden, it is difficult to sustain its consumption over the long term a situation that could eventually lead to a deficiency in Vitamin C or other related essential nutrients.
3. A Refreshing Glass of Mango Juice

There is an intense heatwave outside. Although winter is approaching, the sweltering heat is still very much felt in our country. In truth, the global natural environment is undergoing significant changes, which are also impacting our local weather. On such hot days, one naturally craves something cold ice cream or a chilled fruit juice, for instance!
On the evening of the 2nd october, I stepped out for some work. While out, I bought a glass of mango juice. Drinking it in the midst of the heat felt incredibly refreshing. Since I generally try to avoid sugar, I had it prepared with only a light amount it tasted fantastic. The addition of mint leaves made every sip feel even more revitalizing. I was able to enjoy this delicious glass of mango juice for just 30 Taka (6 steem) . There is a unique pleasure in enjoying such a cool, refreshing drink on a hot day without spending much.
4. Homemade Chicken Roast with Fried Fish and Chinese-Style Vegetables

For lunch, I generally enjoy having a variety of delicious dishes alongside rice. Today, I prepared chicken roast, fried fish, and Chinese-style vegetables. The chicken roast was the highlight of the meal; it is both easy to prepare and incredibly tasty. It is also a firm favorite, especially among children.
Today, I am sharing my personal recipe for making chicken roast.
How to Prepare Chicken Roast
| Ingredients | amount |
|---|---|
| Chicken | 1 kg |
| Roast masala | 35 gm |
| Fried onion | 1 cup |
| Garlic paste | 1 tbs |
| Ginger paste | 1 tbs |
| Yogurt | 1/4 cup |
| Milk | 1/2 cup |
| Suger | 2 tbs |
Step 1: Begin by marinating the chicken pieces with a little ginger paste, garlic paste, and salt. Let them sit for about half an hour.
Step 2: Heat some oil in a pan and lightly fry the chicken pieces, then set them aside.
Step 3: In the same pan, add the necessary spices including ginger paste, garlic paste, plain yogurt (curd), and a blend of 'roast spices' and sauté well. Once the oil begins to separate from the spice mixture, you know it is properly cooked.
Step 4: Add the previously fried chicken pieces to the spice mixture and coat them thoroughly. Pour in an adequate amount of milk, cover the pan, and cook until the chicken is tender and a rich gravy has formed.
Step 5: Once the chicken is cooked through and the gravy has thickened, sprinkle some beresta (crispy fried onions) over the top. Add two to three tablespoons of sugar—adjusting to taste—cook for a little longer, and then remove from the heat.
And that is how my delicious chicken roast is made! I thoroughly enjoyed today’s lunch, pairing the chicken roast with hot rice, fried fish, and Chinese-style vegetables.
