A CHILD DOES NOT ONLY NEED MONEY, THEY NEED ATTENTION

Good day stemians, it's yours truly, @solomonjohnson and today I want to talk about the importance of responsible parenthood. Parenting is one of the biggest responsibilities in life. Bringing a child into the world is not the end of the journey; it is only the beginning of a responsibility that requires love, patience, guidance and understanding. Many parents work very hard to provide for their children. They pay school fees, provide food, buy clothes and make sure their children have the basic things they need. These things are very important, but there is something else children need that money cannot always provide attention.

Sometimes, a child may have a problem but be afraid to talk about it. They may be struggling in school, having issues with friends, feeling unhappy or simply trying to understand something happening around them. If parents are always too busy to listen, the child may eventually stop talking. Giving a child attention does not always mean spending hours with them. Sometimes, it can simply mean asking, "How was your day?" and genuinely listening to the answer. When children know that their parents are willing to listen without immediately judging them, they become more comfortable sharing their thoughts.

Providing for a child is one way of showing love, but love can also be shown through words and actions. A simple hug, encouragement after a difficult day, appreciation for good behaviour or even spending some time together can mean a lot to a child. Children may forget some of the things their parents bought for them, but they are more likely to remember how their parents made them feel.

Children learn from what they see around them. The way parents communicate, handle problems, treat other people and respond to difficult situations can influence how their children behave as they grow. This is why parenting is not only about telling children what to do. Parents also have to lead by example. A child who grows up seeing respect, honesty, patience and kindness is more likely to understand the importance of those values.

Another important part of parenting is understanding that children are not all the same. One child may be naturally confident while another may be shy. One may perform very well academically while another may have strengths in sports, creativity or other areas. Parents should avoid constantly comparing their children with other children. Instead, they should help each child discover their own strengths and encourage them to improve. Every child needs correction, but correction should not destroy their confidence.

At the end of the day, children need more than food, clothes and school fees. They need a safe environment, guidance, encouragement, discipline, communication and genuine love. Providing for a child is important, but being present in that child's life is equally important. Sometimes, the best thing a parent can give a child is not something that can be bought in a shop. It is their time, attention and presence.

Parenting is not about being a perfect parent because nobody is perfect. It is about making the effort to understand your child, guide them properly and let them know that they are loved. A child who knows that their parents will listen to them, support them and correct them with love has a strong foundation for the future.
