My Drawing Art: Realistic Sketch of a Dragon in Pencil

Today I am sharing a brand new drawing of mine with you all. This time I draw a simple pencil sketch of a mythical dragon. A dragon is considered a symbol of strength, curiosity,bravery and imagination, so I paid very special attention and focus to the fine details of its facial expressions, horns, fur and neck. In the pictures above you can see all the final result from the beginning to the finished drawing.

White drawing sheet
HB and 2B pencils
Rubber

How to make a drawing

First step:

First I draw the very basic and simple shape of the dragon's nose, mouth and face with a light pencil to keep the proportions correct and in properly aligned.

Second step:

I then created the initial texture of the horns, eyes and fur on the top of the head, which started to define the identity of the dragon.

Third step:

Then I added long ears, fine facial lines and shading around the eyes to add depth to the face.

Step Four:

After that, he made the neck longer and made skin scales on it one by one, while also adding pointed ridges on the back of the neck.

Fifth Step:

I also did light and dark shading all over the sketch, particularly on the horns, eye, jaw and neck parts, to make the drawing feel much more realistic and mind-blowing.

Step Six:

Finally added a light shading to the background and cleaned up all unnecessary lines. Thus a complete and balanced pencil sketch of the dragon was produced.

My experience

It was an interesting challenge for me to make this drawing. Most of the time was spent on the fur scales, horns and shading as these are the details that bring out the true beauty of the dragon. This practice further improved my observation ability, patience and pencil sketching skills.

The result

Drawing is not just a hobby but a great tool to turn imagination into reality. Every artist can improve their skills with constant practice. I hope you all will like my creation and other friends will also try to improve their creativity.
