Step by step portrait drawing of man

Today I am sharing with you a step-by-step journey of one of my new pencil drawings. This time I created a side profile of a man, including hair, beard, eye and various facial details. I slowly completed the drawing starting with a light sketch.

Step 1: Initial outline of the face

First I drew a simple basic side profile shape of the face with a pencil, outlining the placement of the forehead, nose, lips and chin of the portrait. In this step I kept the lines light so that corrections are easy.

Step 2: Hair and Beard

I then sketched out the basic outline of the hair and beard. Tried to give the hair and beard a natural look with the help of small pencil lines.

Step 3: Ears and Neck

Now I added the inner ear details and attached the neck to the face. Then draw the initial shoulder lines to complete the portrait pose.

Step 4: Eye and face details

In this step I further defined the eyes, eyebrows, nose and lips. Adding light shading to different parts of the face made the portrait stand out more.

Now I added more lines to the hair and arranged them backwards. Also added more pencil strokes to the beard to add depth to the face.

Step 5: Final Shading and Finishing

Finally I did light and dark shading in different parts of the face, beard, hair and neck. After clarifying the necessary lines, my pencil portrait was complete.

After all the steps were completed, a detailed male portrait was produced. I especially like the hair, beard and side profile details in this drawing.

From this drawing I learned that when creating a portrait it is very important to get the basic structure of the face right first, then details such as hair, eyes, beard and shading can be added. Drawing lines and shading get better with continuous practice.
