Diary Game-11/08/26: Diary Game 10: How I Started My Local Fowl Business in Nsukka

Starting my local fowl business in Nsukka was not something I planned to do overnight. I started with the little profit I was making from selling phones and phone accessories. Instead of spending all the profit, I decided to invest part of it into livestock farming.

I chose local fowls because they are more resistant and generally have a lower mortality rate compared to broilers. They also require less spending on feeding and vaccination, making them a good option for someone starting with limited capital.

When I bought my first birds, I didn’t just leave them to chance. I bought a battery cage to keep them safe, organized and comfortable. I also bought three paint buckets of Guinea corn to support their feeding. To help them cope with the stress of transportation and settling into their new environment, I provided some antibiotics and glucose to support their health and energy.

It may have started small, but every step taught me something new about farming, patience and investment. My goal is to continue growing the business gradually and turn it into a sustainable source of income.

This experience has reminded me that sometimes, the little profit we make can become the seed of something much bigger when we invest it wisely.
