THE DIARY GAME: [20/07/2026] I Survived 8 Hours of Messi Banter at Work
Yesterday, Argentina lost to Spain.
I won't even lie, I just sat there staring at my screen like, "Did that really just happen?" My timeline immediately became a war zone, and I knew what was waiting for me. The banter was inevitable. I had already accepted my fate.
I even slept late because I couldn't stop thinking about how my GOAT wasn't going to lift another World Cup. Football can really mess with your emotions.
So this morning, getting out of bed felt like a punishment. I dragged myself up, took my bath, made a cup of tea and had it with two slices of bread. That was enough to prepare me... or so I thought.
On my way to work, I walked from my street to the main road and boarded a shuttle bus. The road was quiet, but my mind wasn't. I was already preparing my defense before I even stepped into the office.
The moment I got there, it started.
The people online had already finished roasting me, but my colleagues decided that wasn't enough. They brought the banter into real life.
They came one after another like they had scheduled shifts. But if you know me, you know one thing: when it comes to my GOAT, I don't back down. I defended Messi with my full chest. We argued, laughed, threw statistics around, and after a while they finally got tired and left me alone. A small victory, if you ask me.
After the football court case was settled, I got back to work and finished everything I needed to do for the day. Once I was done, I just sat there scrolling through my phone. One app I refused to open was X. No, thank you.
The people on that app don't know mercy. I wasn't emotionally ready for another round of "Where's your GOAT now?" So I stayed on Instagram and Facebook. At least the people there still have a little bit of humanity. Before I knew it, it was already 5:00 p.m. I packed my bag, clocked out, and headed home. Some days you lose football matches. Some days you lose arguments. But life goes on.
Messi is still my GOAT today, tomorrow, and the day after.
