🇵🇰🇸🇦 Could Pakistan Be Pulled Into the Saudi-Houthi Conflict?
The escalating conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis is creating a difficult regional situation for Pakistan.
Pakistan has a longstanding defence relationship with Saudi Arabia, and the newly established Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye has added another layer to the situation. The agreement treats an armed attack on one member as an attack on the others.
At the same time, Islamabad has historically tried to maintain working relations with both Saudi Arabia and Iran. Pakistan has also called for dialogue and diplomacy rather than a wider regional war.
🇵🇰 What could happen next?
Pakistan could potentially focus on:
🔹 Defending Saudi territory
🔹 Supporting air-defence and security
🔹 Protecting the Holy Mosques and Saudi infrastructure
🔹 Diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation
Pakistan's Foreign Office previously said that Pakistani strikes against Houthi targets inside Yemen were hypothetical and that the Makkah pact was still being finalized.
The situation remains fluid, and any direct Pakistani military involvement would have major regional consequences.
