It was originally known as Dighapatia Rajbari and was built as the residence of Dighapatia Maharajas. Currently, it is an important government historical structure of the state in the northern region, which is currently known as Uttara Ganabhaban.

Uttara Ganabhaban is a historic 18th-century royal palace located in Natore, Bangladesh. The facade of the Ganabhaban features an eye-catching red and white architectural style built in the Indo-Saracenic style, and its notable clock tower towers over a bell. It was formerly the residence of the Rajshahi royal family, and is now used as a tourist attraction and museum, surrounded by gardens and Inside.

The founder of the Dighapatia dynasty was Dayaram Roy, who was born in 1680 and died in 1760. He started his career as a dewan of the Natore royal family and later established the Dighapatia dynasty through his skills and political influence.

To visit Uttara Ganabhaban, Uttara Ganabhaban can be easily reached by rickshaw or auto-rickshaw from Natore town and is usually open for visitors from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors from different countries come here to know more about the historical structure.

The construction of this palace began in the 18th century as the residence of the Dighapati kings. Later, the palace was expanded and improved many times. After the palace was severely damaged in the terrible earthquake of 1897, Maharaja Pramod Nath Roy rebuilt the entire palace complex. During the British and Pakistani periods, it was known as Estate Rajbari.

On 24 July 1967, the then Governor of East Pakistan, Abdul Monem Khan, designated it as the residence of the Governor. After independence, on 9 February 1972, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared it as the official residence of the Prime Minister in the northern region. Since then, the heads of government of the country have stayed here at various times and official, political and diplomatic meetings have also been held here.

Uttara Ganabhaban is a structure built over a vast area. The entire complex is surrounded by high walls and moats. Its architecture shows a beautiful combination of gardens, ponds, reservoirs and green surroundings along with the royal palace.

There is a queen's garden, where various species of flowering plants have been cultivated. One of the attractions of Uttara Ganabhaban is the four-story pyramid-shaped entrance on the east side, the upper part of which gradually narrows and becomes a tower with a clock. This entrance has further enhanced the royal beauty of the entire establishment.
