The Diary Game (14/9/2026): from craving noodles and egg to cooking low budget eguisi soup
INTRODUCTION
Hey guys, I woke up this morning with the urge of having a light breakfast, noodles and egg to be precise, but I checked my purse and all i had left was just a thousand five hundred naira, using the money to get noodles, meant staying hungry for the rest of the day, so i advised myself to do what will be of great benefit to myself.
As an economical girl that i am, i decided to prepare eguisi soup thank goodness i had the basic ingredients at home, so i used the money i had to buy smoked fish, that's how i found myself using just, maggi, salt, pepper and smoked fish to prepare a pot of soup.
I proceeded to pluck and squeeze my bitterleafs since that's what I wanted to add to the soup, i don't know if its a culture in Nigeria to squeeze your bitterleaf 3 times but most people do that, i sha squeezed mine till i couldn't taste any bitterness before i decided to let it go
In my house, we believe strongly on division of labor, so i asked my younger sister to dry and grind the melon with the local engine, i pitied her sha, because it was difficult for her to keep twisting the engine, but i couldn't help her, its her duty so i allowed her do it
lil sis struggling with the engineThen I proceeded to squeezing the melon to extract oil from it, this particular part was very tiring cause you'll have to twist the melon till oil comes out of it, i almost gave up ooo but in other not to look lazy in front of my younger siblings, i had no option but to continue.
After doing all these, I steamed my smoked fish for a while, then added the melon to the boiling fish and allowed it dry up a little, before following with other ingredients, i added my palm oil and adjusted the seasoning cubes trying to get the perfect taste, then lastly i added the squeezed bitterleaf and allowed it to boil for a while before bringing it down.
I dishesd out the food for everyone, and trust me when i say it was delicious, much more than i expected, i served it with ebba (garri) made from cassava.
Moral lesson, cut your coat according to your clothe.
So tell me guys, will you eat or pass??
