The Diary Game: 2nd August 2026. How I Spent My Sunday*

in Steem4Nigeria16 days ago

Hello everyone,
My name is Blessed, but my friends call me Blessedi. I’m here today to share with you how I spent my Sunday. It was a day filled with stress, family time, cooking, and a meeting. Honestly, it was tiring but also fulfilling.

My day started early. My mum called me in the morning and asked me to come and help with cooking. I live at Caremoon, so I had to leave my place and travel all the way to Gwagwalada. The journey wasn’t too long, but by the time I got there, the sun was already up and the compound was busy.

When I arrived, I greeted my mum with so much joy. After exchanging pleasantries, we sat down to talk. We discussed many things as mothers and daughters do lol. The main topic she kept bringing up was marriage. She said to me, “My daughter, it’s better to get married early.” I just laughed because that’s her favorite advice these days. We laughed, gist-ed, and caught up on family news.

Not long after, my brother’s wife came around with her baby. The house became lively immediately. The sound of the child running around and my sister-in-law’s voice made the place feel complete.

After our gist, we decided it was time to start cooking. The plan was to make Jollof rice and chicken. We all went outside to make fire because that’s how my mum prefers to cook on Sundays. There was something nostalgic about cooking with firewood — the smoke, the heat, and the laughter while working together.

First, we gathered everything we needed. Thankfully, we had all the ingredients: rice, chicken, fresh tomatoes, pepper, onions, oil, and spices. We started by boiling water and pouring it over the rice to parboil it. At the same time, we seasoned and steamed the chicken. The aroma of ginger and garlic already filled the air.

After steaming, we fried the chicken until it was golden brown. The sound of it sizzling made us even hungrier lol. Then we set another pot on the fire, poured in oil, and started frying the blended tomatoes and pepper. We added all the Jollof spices — curry, thyme, bay leaf, ginger, garlic, and seasoning cubes. The base of the Jollof was smelling so good that we almost wanted to eat it like that.

When it was time to add the rice, we realized the pot was too small. The rice couldn’t fit properly. We had to think fast. So we scooped out some of the fried tomato stew and kept it aside, then used it to cook the remaining rice in another round. In the end, we cooked the Jollof in two batches because of the small pot. It was stressful, but we laughed through it.

By the time we finished cooking, everyone was tired and sweaty. I went to take my bath, and after that, we all bathed and changed. We packed the food and took it inside the house because it was time for the meeting.

The meeting started with opening prayers and greetings. Everyone was present, and the atmosphere was calm. We discussed different issues concerning the family and community. There were announcements, contributions, and advice given. It lasted for a while, but I was glad I attended because I learned a few things and also got to see relatives I hadn’t seen in a while.

After the meeting was over, I said my goodbyes, took my bath again at my mum’s place, and started my journey back to Caremoon. The trip back was quiet. I used the time to reflect on the day.

Looking back, my Sunday was a mix of stress and joy. I helped with cooking, spent quality time with my mum and family, attended a meeting, and traveled twice in one day. Even though I was tired, I felt happy. There’s something special about spending time with family and doing things together, even the stressful parts like cooking with a small pot lol.

That was how I spent my Sunday, 2nd August 2026. Thank you all for reading my diary. I hope to share more with you next week.
