SNA Contest Week 148: Problem Solving — Family and Relationships
What do you think the man or woman can do to amend their family's problems?
I think the situation is not only about money but also about communication, responsibility, power, and respect. These three are what contributed to the problem in the family.
The husband is neglecting his responsibility in his family and using the idea of submission to avoid him from communicating with his family, especially his wife. On the other hand, the wife is reacting by refusing and withdrawing care and refusing to feed her husband because she feels unappreciated and abandoned.
To this, I think it is the husband who is more at fault because providing emotional leadership, communication, and contributing to family welfare or needs are the responsibilities of a man, whether the wife has money or not.
What the husband should do:
- The husband should accept that the income of his wife does not remove his responsibility to support his family
- He should initiate communication rather than waiting for his wife to be the first to speak.
- He should apologize for neglecting his responsibilities
- He should contribute according to his family according to his ability
What the wife should do:
- The wife should express her pain calmly rather than using food or care as a weapon.
- She should clearly state what she needs: partnership, communication, and responsibility.
- She should avoid humiliating or insulting her husband because of money.
What do you think the parents or children can do?. Who's at fault?
Both parents are at fault, but the parents are the ones who carry the greater responsibility. This is because the parents are the emotional leaders of the family. The children may be immature, afraid, shy of criticism, or used to being ignored.
What the parents can do:
- The parents should start conversations without waiting for their children.
- The parents should ask about their lives, not only money or school.
- They should listen without immediately judging, comparing themselves with others, or preaching.
- The parents should create time for their family, like weekly discussion.
What the children can do:
- The children should try to communicate even when they don't need money
- They should share parts of their lives gradually.
- Show appreciation for what their parents do
- Avoid contacting or communicating with their parents only during financial emergencies.
What do you think the man or the woman should do?
First, the wife earns more money and wants a change, which her husband resists. The wife wants a better and less stressful life, and the husband is afraid of losing control, being disrespected, or being excluded from decisions.
What should the woman do:
I think the woman should discuss the purpose of the purchase, safety, family convenience, business, and transportation. In addition to this, she should present the budget and show that family needs are covered and avoid making unnecessary changes without letting her husband know.
