The Diary Game: The Thriving Youth Hangout: A Sunday Filled with Fun, Laughter, and Beautiful Memories - 11/10/2026

in Steem4Nigeria • 22 days ago

So, yesterday was Sunday, and the youths in my church had been planning a hangout tagged “The Thriving Youth Hangout.” After our church service, we put everything in motion to make the long-awaited outing happen.

We had already sought permission from our pastor, and thankfully, he granted us permission. We also got the services of an elder in the church who owned a big bus that could accommodate all 21 youths going for the hangout.

At a few minutes to 1 p.m., we set off for our destination: Kano Ndubuisi Park, Ikeja. We arrived a few minutes past 1 p.m., and everyone was excited to begin the day's activities.

As we got out of the bus, something pleasant happened. The man who drove us offered to wait for us and take us back home afterward, even though that wasn't part of our original arrangement. We were really happy about his kind offer because it meant we wouldn't have to start worrying about how to get back home.

We brought out all the things we had come with, including food items, drinks, bottled water, mats, and other essentials. One of the executives went ahead to register us, and afterward, we entered the park.

Finding Our Spot and Getting Started

Once inside, we carefully searched for a suitable spot where we could comfortably carry out our activities. When we found one, we spread our mats, arranged our belongings, and settled down.

Of course, we didn't just jump into the fun. We started by praying and committing the day's activities into God's hands. After the prayer, we introduced ourselves and got ready for the games.

Our first major game was the Imposter Game. We had to repeat it several times because some people kept spoiling the game simply because they didn't understand how it worked.

Well, you know how these things go when people are still trying to figure out the rules!

After that, we moved on to tug of war, with the boys competing against the girls. We also played some other games whose names I can no longer remember.

At some point, a pack of small chops was distributed to everyone, alongside a bottle of water. That little refreshment helped keep us going as we continued enjoying ourselves.

My First Scrabble Experience!

One thing I particularly enjoyed about the hangout was that I got to play games I had never played before.

We played Scrabble, Whot, and chess. Can you believe that I had never played Scrabble before? Well, yesterday was my first time learning how to play it!

It was quite an experience, and I'm glad I got the opportunity to try something new.

While we were busy playing these games, some people kept shouting that they wanted to go and ride the Jangolova. Apparently, the games weren't enough for them; they wanted some real adventure!

Meanwhile, hunger was gradually setting in for some of us. After all, all that playing and excitement required energy.

Food Time!

Eventually, the food was served, and trust me, it was a welcome development!

We had jollof rice, turkey, plantain, and moi moi, accompanied by soft drinks.

At that point, nobody needed to be reminded twice that it was time to eat. After playing and moving around for a while, we were more than ready to enjoy our meal.

The food was lovely, and everyone had the opportunity to eat before we proceeded to the next part of our adventure.

The Jangolova Experience Was Something Else!

After eating, we headed to the playground to ride the Jangolova and try some of the other attractions.

However, our vice president volunteered to stay behind and watch over our belongings while the rest of us went to have fun.

And honestly, the Jangolova experience was one of the highlights of the day!

Some people were afraid to ride the swing, while others gathered enough courage to give it a try. There were even people who fell while riding because of fear.

Some complained that their eyes were turning after riding the Jangolova.

It was a mixture of excitement, fear, laughter, and pure enjoyment. Watching everyone's different reactions made the whole experience even more interesting.

You know that kind of outing where even the people who are afraid to participate end up entertaining everyone with their reactions? That was practically what happened!

We had so much fun trying out the different attractions, and I believe those moments will remain memorable for a long time.

Pictures, Videos, and the Journey Back Home

After spending some time at the playground, we returned to our spot to take group pictures.

One thing I must commend us for is that we came prepared. We had the necessary tools to capture our adventure, and almost every stage of the hangout was recorded in videos.

Unfortunately, I was so carried away by all the fun that I completely forgot to take personal pictures until we were almost ready to leave.

It was only then that I quickly took the pictures attached to this post.

Imagine enjoying yourself so much that you forget you are supposed to be taking pictures to document the experience!

Anyway, the group pictures were taken, and we were gradually getting ready to leave when the driver called me.

He informed me that he had a meeting to attend and that we needed to call it a day.

I passed the message across to the others, and we gathered our belongings, packed everything up, and prepared to leave the park.

Just like that, our beautiful outing came to an end.

Final Thoughts: I Needed This Kind of Fun!

Honestly, it was a fun-filled day!

I cannot remember the last time I experienced this much fun. Between the games, the food, the laughter, the playground adventures, and the opportunity to spend quality time with other youths from my church, the entire experience was worth it.

Sometimes, life gets so busy that we become caught up in work, responsibilities, financial struggles, and the daily effort to make ends meet. Before we know it, weeks or even months pass without us taking time to relax and enjoy ourselves.

Yesterday reminded me that life should not be all about work and responsibilities. We also need moments that allow us to laugh freely, connect with people, learn new things, and create beautiful memories.

I'm genuinely grateful to God for the opportunity to be part of this experience. I'm also grateful to everyone who contributed to making the hangout a success.

The Thriving Youth Hangout was truly a success, and I hope we get to experience many more beautiful moments like this together!

Have you ever attended a youth hangout, picnic, or group outing that left you with beautiful memories? What was the most exciting thing you did?
