Assalamu Alaikum my dear friends!
Hope you are all well. Today I am participating in Steemit Challenge Season 33 - Week 4. I really liked this week's topic because in it we have to choose a movie of our choice whose ending we did not like at all. Then we have to write a new ending for it according to our thinking and also tell why our ending is better than the original movie.
I have chosen the movie A Monster Calls for this challenge. It is one of those movies that not only provides entertainment but also beautifully describes human emotions, fear, hope and love. My eyes watered many times while watching the movie, but its ending was such that it made me sad. That is why if I get the chance to rewrite the ending of this movie, I will present it in a slightly different way.
༻Movie Information༻
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| Movie | A Monster Calls |
| Release Year | 2016 |
| Director | J. A. Bayona |
| Based On | Based on the novel by Patrick Ness |
| Genre | Fantasy / Drama |
༻Story Overview༻
The story is about a thirteen-year-old boy Conor O'Malley, whose mother is suffering from cancer. His father lives in another country. Well the Conor lives with his sick mother. Some kids at school tease him. He struggles with his fear, anger and sadness inside.

One night an ancient tree near his house takes the form of a huge Monster. At first Conor thinks it is a scary creature. Then gradually he realizes that the Monster has come not to scare him but to explain the realities of life.
The Monster tells a new story every night. Behind each story is a lesson hidden. He teaches Conor that the world is not just divided into good and bad. Sometimes even good people make bad decisions and sometimes in difficult situations, a person has to make decisions that are not easy.

Finally, Monster tells Conor to accept his biggest fear in his heart. This is the most powerful and emotional moment of the film.
༻What Left Me Unsatisfied༻
In the original film, Conor's mother does not recover from her illness and eventually passes away. After that, Conor starts living with his grandmother and starts a new journey of his life.
I believe that this ending is closer to reality because in real life too, not every illness has a happy ending, but while watching the film, I felt that the whole story was based on hope, love and courage, while the ending ended only in sadness.

When the whole film teaches a lesson to be strong, if at least a ray of hope had been shown at the end, the effect of the film would have been even more beautiful.
༻My Version of the Final Chapter༻
In my opinion, the ending of the story should have been something like this.
Conor is sitting by his mother's bedside. He holds her hand tightly and tells her everything that is in his heart for the first time. He expresses all his fears, anger and sadness.
Meanwhile, the doctors tell the family about a new treatment. They make it clear that the success of this treatment is not guaranteed, but it can definitely be tried.

A few weeks pass very difficult. Conor goes to the hospital every day. He shows his mother pictures, reads books to her and tries to bring a smile to her face every day.
One night, Monster appears to her for the last time.
He says:
"You have accepted the truth of your heart. This is the greatest courage. But remember, hope is also part of reality. As long as hope is alive. A person never completely gives up."
In the morning, the doctors give the good news that the treatment is showing positive results. Although it will take time to fully recover. The threat is no longer as great as it was before.
A few months later, Conor starts going back to school. He is now more confident than ever. He rekindles his passion for drawing. He learns to find joy in his life.

His mother also slowly starts to get better. She is still weak, but she can now spend time with her son.
In the last scene of the film, Conor and his mother are sitting under the same old tree.
Conor opens his new sketchbook and makes the first drawing of the same Monster.
The wind blows slowly, the branches of the tree sway and it feels as if the Monster is smiling silently.
Conor looks up at the sky. He says just one sentence:
"Thank you... you taught me to live in hope, not fear."
Well this scene becomes the end of the film.
༻Why This Ending Feels More Meaningful༻
Well I think my ending makes the original message of the film stronger, not weaker.
This film taught us from beginning to end that a person should face their fears, accept their feelings and not run away from the truth.

If a small glimmer of hope had been added at the end, the audience would have felt that difficult times in life do not always last.
Not every illness ends in death, and after every dark night there is a new dawn.
For this reason I feel my ending stays true to the film's emotions. Well it giving viewers a comforting message that hope can exist even in the most difficult moments.
༻My Personal Opinion༻
A Monster Calls is one of my favorite movies. Well it taught me that you shouldn't hide your feelings. Sadness, fear and tears are not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of humanity.

Although I didn't like the actual ending. The story, acting, music and message of the movie are really beautiful. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes to watch emotional and educational movies.
༻Official Trailer༻
If you haven't seen this movie yet, then watch the official trailer. I am sure that this movie will definitely touch you emotionally.
