Steemit Update [August 22nd 2026] : Community Curators for September - Trying Something New !

The Community Curators have been running in their current form for just over a year.

They have been working well enough but there are a few areas of the Steem Community that are not getting the attention they really need.

Two aspects that most definitely merit improvement are post quality and post engagement.

For September we want to experiment with new formats for the Community Curators to try to address these issues.

The Community Curators for September

For September there will be three types of Curator that people can apply for…

1. Steem Engagers

2. Steem Improvers

3. Theme Curators

For the Steem Engagers we want people to find good posts to vote on and start conversations in the comments - both with the post author and other commenters. The conversations have to be real discussions about the content of the posts - so the posts should be chosen wisely.

To encourage good conversations, and to encourage people to apply as Engagers, sc01/02 will be giving votes to the comments (both from the Engagers and other commenters) as well as the posts.

For the Steem Improvers we want people to find posts that have interesting content but are let down by poor presentation, weak and repeated photographs, confusing titles, bad use of markdown, spelling mistakes, incorrect grammar etc etc. The Improvers then need to comment with clear and helpful constructive criticism to encourage authors to significantly upgrade their posts.

Posts being reviewed can be from new or old authors alike. Other people are encouraged to add to the Improvers comments as well to further help the authors make their posts better.

To encourage constructive comments, and to encourage people to apply as Improvers, sc01/02 will be giving votes on the comments (both from the Improvers and other commenters) as well as the posts.

For the Theme Curators we want individuals (or teams of up to three) to seek out the best posts on their chosen subject or theme.

These might be narrow or broad, but should be areas where the Curators have particular skill, knowledge or experience.

Examples might be art, cooking, gaming, technology, travel or gardening.

For the Steem Improvers and Steem Engagers people are invited to apply as individuals - although they can apply as teams of up to three if they prefer.

For the Theme Curators, the preference will be for people to apply in teams of two or three, although people may apply individually if they prefer.

Curators will be free to vote as they want on any appropriate posts as long as they are not plagiarized or the text created by AI.

How to Apply as a Curator

Individuals or Team Representatives should make a post including…

• Details about themselves (and any team members), including their brief history on Steem and any positions of responsibility they have held on the platform

• Nationality, languages and country of residence of each team member

• Key stats of each team member (own SP, CSI, Reputation, Delegations).

Please note that each person can only be included in one application.

For September there will be a minimum SP requirement of 10,000 SP for every applicant.

Applicants who have delegated any significant proportion of their SP to voting or earning services are less likely to be successful.

Those who are actively curating with all or most of their SP and have a good CSI will be given preference.

Application posts should clearly indicate in the title whether they are for Steem Engager, Steem Improver or Theme Curator roles.

Theme Curator applicants should make it clear what theme or subject they want to curate.

Posts should include the tag #curatorapplication in the first four tags.

Applications can be made in any language.

Posts should be submitted by 11.59pm UTC, on Friday, August 28th, 2026.

How Community Curators will be rewarded

Every day all teams will be allowed to allocate one full vote to a member’s post - ideally in rotation if there is more than one member in the team.

In total no more than 10% of the account’s voting power should be used on team members each week.

Additionally each week the team or individual curator should post a report in the Steem POD community with a list of their top 7 posts, with a brief note of why each post was chosen.

The posts will be voted by @steemcurator01.

Selecting Posts from other Community Curators

There have recently been a number of comments that Community Curators are too often selecting the posts of other Community Curators for their weekly winners.

We strongly encourage Curators to look beyond the posts of other Community Curators for their weekly ‘top 7’ selected posts.

To help with the monitoring of this we would like Community Curators to include in their weekly posts a report of how many of the seven selected posts are from other Community Curators.

This reporting may have an impact on the vote percentage given by sc01 for the weekly post.

Thank you to this month’s Community Curators. You are all welcome to apply again for September.

The new Curation Teams will be announced by the end of the month, with a view to starting at the beginning of September.

There will again be 11 curation accounts in total - how these are divided among the different types of curator will be determined by the quality of the respective applications.

September will very much be an experimental month. We hope the new types of curator will improve the quality of posts, and greatly increase the amount of engagement and discussion between members of the Community.
