Steemit Update [August 24th, 2026] : Steemit Challenge Season 34 - Time for a Change

The Steemit Challenge has been running in its current form for quite a number of seasons.

It has been working okay, but the challenges have become rather repetitive. So now is a good time for a change.

As mentioned with the changes to the Community Curators, Steem is currently lacking in two key areas - post quality and community engagement.

We therefore want to experiment with the Steemit Challenge to see if it can help make improvements on both these fronts.

Steemit Challenge - Season 34

For Season 34 we are not inviting applications for people to run challenges.

Instead the Steemit Team will be setting a new style of Challenge.

For a first trial we want to concentrate on two popular areas - Contests and the Diary Game.

These both generate many posts every day so we will be using these to experiment with ways to improve quality and engagement.

People can participate in the Challenge in three ways…

• Engagement - for this people should make meaningful comments and start discussions on Diary Game posts - use the tag #s34engagement on your comments.

• Improvement - for this people should give helpful and useful constructive criticism on Diary Game posts and Contests on how they can be improved - use the tag #s34improvement on your comments.

• Weekly Choices - once a week people are invited to make a post highlighting 3 Diary Game posts and 3 Contests that they think deserve more attention. For each of the six selections you should give a brief reason why they have been chosen. You should include a note on what you think makes a good Diary Game post, and what makes a good Contest. The selected Diary Game posts should be ones you have commented on, and the selected Contests should be ones you have commented on and entered. Use the tag #s34weekly for these posts.

Steemcurator 01 & 02 will be voting on the best Weekly Choice posts, and the Engagement and Improvement comments. Significant voting will be concentrated on the most useful and most interesting comments.

Of course you can also participate by making Diary Game posts and Contests as normal. You can also make comments on other people’s comments to increase your chance of getting votes.

For the Weekly Choice posts, we also encourage people to comment on and challenge people’s selections where appropriate.

As an added bonus, there will be some votes available for how-to / guideline type posts on how to make a good Diary Game post, or how to run a good Contest - use the tag #s34guides for these.

As this new style of Challenge is very experimental, Season 34 will run for 3 weeks from Monday, August 24th until 11:59pm UTC on Sunday, September 13th, 2026.

We will be looking closely at how people participate in Season 34 to help us refine a new type of Challenge being planned for Season 35.
