SLC-S33/W4 | Beyond the Map: A Place That Changed Me
Hello, everyone,
I'm glad to be participating in this Steemit Challenge Season 33, Week 4. This week's theme, "Beyond the Map: A Place That Changed Me," immediately reminded me of one place I can never forget, The Glory Dome, Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja. In this post, I will share why this place means so much to me.
Where is this place located, how can visitors reach it, and when did you visit it?
---

The Glory Dome is the headquarters of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, located along Airport Road in Abuja, Nigeria. It is one of the largest church auditoriums in the world, and people from different parts of Nigeria and other countries come here to worship every year. If you are visiting from anywhere within Abuja, you can get there by using a taxi or any ride hailing service. Those coming from outside the city can also reach the church from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, which is not too far from the place. I had always wanted to visit the Glory Dome since it was completed in 2018, and I finally had the opportunity to do so on 31st December, 2025.
What personal experience or event made this place so meaningful, and how did it influence or change you?

Exterior view of the Glory Dome
Like I said before, I had longed to be at the Glory Dome since it was built. I am a member of Dunamis Church, although I attend one of the branches. So, when I went to Abuja, I could not just think of going to another church or branch. I wanted to see the headquarters where I had always heard so much about and where I could experience everything live and direct.
On the day that I went, I followed the church's long coastal bus with a friend of mine. The bus was painted yellow or blue with the image of the senior pastor on it. While inside the bus, I was more than excited to finally see the vastness of the building that I had seen online and heard people talk about.
And finally, when we got there, although I was a complete novice, I behaved as if I had been there so many times. But deep inside me, I was super excited. We came down from the bus, and all I could see was the glory of God and how large the building was right before me. When viewing it from the outside, you might think it is not that big until you go inside the church auditorium. The compound was also so big. It had a car park, a garden, a mini stadium, a school and lots more. Although, I could not explore everywhere that day.
The most touching moment was right inside the building when the service finally started. It was indeed more than what I had been seeing on television. Back then, in my branch, we would stream the services online, but right there, you could see how real everything was.

Inside view of the Glory Dome auditorium
I was not actually ready to go back after the service ended. I could not just take my eyes off the beauty of the place and how vast and wide the inside was. I felt like I had accomplished a mission when I left, and I gave myself the word that I would always worship at the headquarters anytime I am in Abuja.

The main stage inside the Glory Dome
This place actually changed me even before I came there, but being there gave me a better experience of worship in the house of God. I danced and was happier than I had been in a long time. Being there was different from watching the service on television. I was right there, seeing everything with my own eyes and worshipping in the same place I had heard and seen so much about.

During the intense worship service
What historical , cultural, natural, or social significance does this place have for the local community?

Worshippers arriving at the Glory Dome for service
Glory Dome, as we call it, is not just some sort of building but a worship center where thousands of people visit daily, weekly, monthly and yearly to either worship and experience God in more ways or to come for healing for their challenges. I personally have gotten my own testimony here in Glory Dome. Every last Friday is Worship and Wonders Night, another intense worship and knowledge of the Word of God. And every Tuesday is Healing and Deliverance Service, while every Wednesday is Communion Service.
What can visitors see, learn, or experience here that makes this place worth visiting?
---
If you are coming in as a visitor, there are a lot happening here. Although this is not a tourist center, it is worth every visit. In fact, I recommend you visit it someday or add it to your places to visit list, because the moment you come, you will experience not just the vastness and beauty of the building, but the worship service alone will keep you there all through.

The Church garden
Furthermore, you can decide to go and visit the garden or the mini stadium and take a stroll around the compound to see how clean and neat everywhere is. The most lovely thing here is that the compound is not noisy but quiet, so you can even chill around.
If someone were planning to visit this place, what advice or recommendations would you give to help them make the most of their visit?
---
Visiting times vary, you can visit anytime because it is open 24/7, but the best time is when there is a live service so you can experience the glory of God.
In regards to what to wear, since it is a religious centre, it is advisable to dress appropriately. Wear clothes that cover you properly without anyone having to embarrass you because of what you wore.
If you visit as a first timer or even if it is your second time, you might miss your way inside the church auditorium because it happened to me. I missed my seat, but my friend just signalled me from afar, and that was how I located my seat. If not, I would have kept roaming about looking for where I was sitting.
I invite @jubilcrypt, @davidgeneral and @alexanderpeace to this contest and thanks to @pea07 and @rauja for this contest.
