My Life with Cats: Happy Memories and Sad Goodbyes
Cats have always been my favorite pets. I liked cats from an early age, but keeping a cat at home did not happen suddenly. In fact, my family was not very interested in keeping pets, especially cats. So, for a long time, I could only enjoy seeing cats around our neighborhood.
One day, a cat started coming to our house regularly. We used to give it food, and gradually it became attached to us. I think it may have belonged to someone else because it seemed familiar with people. Since we gave it food, it started visiting our house frequently. However, we did not allow it to stay inside the house all the time.
Unfortunately, the cat became sick one day. My mother was not interested in keeping cats, but she has always loved animals. She also used to feed that cat and hoped that it would recover. Sadly, the cat eventually died. Later, one of our neighbors, seeing how much we cared about cats, left a kitten at our house. However, we returned it because my mother was still not ready to keep a cat.
After that, one of our neighbor's cats gave birth to kittens at our house. That was when we gradually started keeping cats. My mother used to feed them regularly, and because of this, she also became attached to them. We have also taken care of some cats that were lost or had nowhere else to go.
Keeping a cat may seem easy, but providing proper care is not always simple. There are veterinary doctors in our area, but finding a good doctor specifically experienced with cats is difficult.
The hardest moments are when a cat becomes seriously sick in front of you, but you cannot take it anywhere for proper treatment because there is no suitable veterinary service nearby. We have experienced this several times. Some cats died in front of us, and we could not do much to save them.

One of the cats I remember most is Himu, our brown-colored cat. He was probably the most beautiful cat we had. Another cat bit and scratched him, and later he developed stomach problems. Sadly, he eventually died.
Himu was found by my brother at his office. He was hungry and a little weak at the time. My brother felt sorry for him and brought him home so that we could take care of him.
Over time, Himu became a part of our family, and we became very attached to him. Several other cats have also died or disappeared over the years.

Later, another cat that my mother loved very much also died. He was one of the healthiest cats we had, which made his death even more painful. I often feel that the lack of proper veterinary treatment for cats in our area contributed to these unfortunate situations.
The healthy cat had grown up in our home since it was a kitten, so my mother was especially attached to it. That is why she was very sad when it died.
When it became sick, we took it to a doctor and it was also given vaccines. However, I personally feel that the doctor may not have been able to properly identify the actual illness.
Another major problem is that our town does not have modern facilities for diagnosing diseases in cats. I also did not have reliable information about whether proper diagnostic facilities were available in the nearby cities.
Because of these limitations, it was very difficult for us to understand exactly what was wrong with the cat and provide the right treatment at the right time.

Currently, we have a cat named Mickey at our home. We have known him since he was a kitten. Mickey was born to one of our neighbor’s cats. After he was born, he grew up around our home and gradually became familiar with our family.
We also became attached to him over time. Eventually, we decided to keep Mickey and take care of him ourselves. Mickey is very beautiful. He has a black-and-white coat and is a male cat. My mother loves him very much and makes sure that he gets food on time.
Although Mickey does not stay at our home all the time because he has grown up, whenever he comes home, we take care of him and give him food. He likes fish and rice, cake, biscuits, milk, and different kinds of food. Sometimes, he also stays at our home for a while.
Interestingly, two cats from our neighbor still often visit our home. So, in a way, our connection with Mickey began through our neighbor’s cat, and that connection still continues through the cats that visit us.
Although we have lost many cats, my love for them has never changed. For me, cats are not just animals around the house. They become part of our daily lives, and when they are gone, we truly miss them.

You have beautifully described the stories behind how each cat gradually became a part of your family. I really enjoyed reading about those experiences through your writing. However, welcoming a cat as a family member requires proper care and attention, and it is truly heartbreaking to see them suffer when they are ill. It was heartwarming to witness the love you and your mother have for these cats; the accounts of the passing of Himu and your mother's beloved cat were particularly poignant. The pain of losing a cherished animal one loved just like a family member is surely profound. I hope Miki remains healthy and safe. The photos of your cats were presented beautifully; they were truly endearing to look at.
Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. Sharing these stories and honoring the memory of Himu and my mother's beloved cat is very meaningful to us. Losing them was deeply painful, but the love they brought into our lives will remain forever. We are truly grateful for your warm wishes. Did you have any pets before?

Thank you so much for your kind and understanding words. You’re so right, it’s heartbreaking to see our pets suffer without nearby medical care, and it’s just as tough when veterinary costs become overwhelming. I’m so sorry you had to go through that stressful experience with the expenses for your own pet.
I want more advanced pet care centers to be built in or around our area, and for the costs of pet care or treatment to be reduced in your city so that raising animals becomes easier.
Feeding and caring for the community cats brings us so much joy, and despite the pain of losing some, our love for them keeps us going. I was also impressed by your love for pets. Which is your favorite pet?
