Drawing a Tree

In today's drawing challenge, I will be drawing a tree to be used as decoration in my house. To successfully carry out this task, I will need some materials

What is needed for today's drawing

To draw this beautiful tree, I will need the materials listed below for both sketching and colouring the tree.

Drawing Procedure

Step 1 [Preparing the Canvas]

I will be drawing on a plain A4 paper. As you can see, I have written my username and today's date, being the 24 th day of July, 2026. Because the task is a tree, it will fit better in landscape orientation.

Step 2 [Sketching and Structure]

A sketch of the tree will guide me through the drawing process. It will help with scaling so it fits well on A4 paper.

A good sketch often leads to a good drawing, so here is my initial sketch of the tree.

1000173915.jpg

I started the sketch from the roots up. Maintaining proper ratio and proportions was challenging. It was even more challenging trying to have the branches reduce size as I got towards the tips. I really needed to maintain their fractal nature.

1000173965.jpg

It was now time for more precision, so I switched to a zero point five pencil, using it to attach leaves to the branches.

The leaves had to look alike, though the realy did not have to maintain an exact size. Some had to be bigger compared to others

1000173966.jpg

It was ok for some branches to have more leaves; trees are really not uniform in the way they grow branches and leaves. This was a relief.

1000173917.jpg

I painstakingly went ahead, adding leaf after leaf till it felt like adding more would make the tree overcrowded with leaves.

The tree is now ready for shading and colouring.

Step 3 [Shading and colouring]

1000173918.jpg

My colours are now out and ready for the colouring stage.

I started the colouring with the brown colour.
This covered the tree's trunk up to its branches.

1000173919.jpg

After the brown colour, the next was green. I used three shades of green on the leaves. Starting from the leaf stalk around its blade and tip.

Now it was time to add some flowers to the tree.

Step 4 [Finishing]

Now the tree is ready for a photo shoot.

It's time to take a selfie

How I feel about this art

I really had a good time sharpening my eye-hand cordination during this drawing process. It felt therapeutic in nature and I will love to participate again in such a contest.
So my answer is yes, i really enjoyed the paper art creations

Challenges

Drawing each leaves was challanging. It also felt challanging when I was trying to get the proportions for each branch as I got closer to its tips. All branches had to end naturally, getting smaller and smaller.
Deciding where to place each flower was another problem i had to deal with.

Conclusion and Invitation

My appreciation to the organisers for organising this drawing contest. I am inviting @peacemike, @archie25, @lhorgic, @annydee01 and @josepha to drop a comment and participate in this contest.

Your artwork/drawing look beautiful. Wishing you good luck
